A flavourful Journey at Mengrai Thai

My boyfriend and I recently had the pleasure of dining at Mengrai Thai for the first time, drawn in by the intriguing allure of a restaurant that has hosted its fair share of celebrities. Our culinary adventure left us with a memorable experience and a taste for more.

To kick off our meal, we indulged in the golden flowers with chicken, an appetizer that lived up to its enticing description. The crispy texture of the golden flowers was delightful, providing a perfect contrast to the succulent chicken within. Each bite was a harmonious blend of flavours, setting a promising tone for the rest of our dining experience.

For the main course, we opted for the pineapple fried rice and Sasi's Pad Thai noodle. The pineapple fried rice was a revelation, with the sweet and tangy notes of pineapple perfectly complementing the savoury rice and assorted ingredients. Sasi's Pad Thai noodle lived up to its reputation, delivering a burst of flavours that danced on our taste buds. The careful balance of spices and the freshness of the ingredients were truly commendable, showcasing the culinary expertise of Mengrai Thai's kitchen.

To conclude our feast, we savoured the sweet coconut rice and mango dessert, a delightful combination that provided a refreshing end to our meal. The coconut rice was perfectly cooked, and the sweetness of the mango added a tropical touch, leaving us completely satisfied.

A friendly tip for future patrons: be sure to bring cash if you're looking to score a discount.

While our experience was nearly flawless, a minor improvement here and there could have propelled Mengrai Thai to a perfect score. Nevertheless, with its delectable offerings, celebrity allure, and cash discount incentive, we confidently rate Mengrai Thai 4.75/5 stars—very close to perfection. It's a gem that certainly deserves a spot on any food...

My husband and I randomly found this restaurant near our neighborhood when we were coming home late on a Sunday night and many places were closed. I found that they have a pretty wide selections in their menu and well priced so I ordered a glass noodle for take out. Before I tried the food, what struck me was how friendly the owner, Alan (found out his name later) is on the phone, letting me know not to worry if I'm late because of traffic and even gave me an order of salad rolls on the house. When I got home, the food was still hot and the flavor is soooo good. My husband has spent some time in Thailand so he's very particular about Thai food and even he said he wants to try dining there. We went back a week later for a sit down dinner and upon the friendly recommendation from Alan, we tried their seasonal prix fix menu and we are so glad we did. The flavor was amazing and while the portion isn't big, it's good and very filling. I had the red curry with lychee and hub got the green curry with sticky rice. He said he got flash backs from Bangkok 😂😂😂 for dessert, I tried the off menu recommendation from Alan again, which is lemongrass creme brulée. I know I know, I was skeptical too because i would have never associated lemongrass with dessert and also I've never been a fan of creme brulée but I tried anyway. It. Is. Life-changing!! I've never enjoyed creme brulée so much before, it's not overly sweet and has a nice tamed ginger note that feels like a warm hug from someone who loves you 🥲🥲🥲

I'm already making plans to come back and bring my parents too so needless to say, I would 100% recommend this neighborhood...

Went for summerlicious today. The appetizer I got was ok - mango salad not sweet or soft texture to my liking, more crunchy and firm; coconut shrimp in sweet chili sauce was decent. The main - pad Thai chicken was not good. Asked for no spicy but there's a little kick to the chicken, maybe marinated with black pepper or some spicy seasoning. The mango sticky rice as dessert is really good. Overall good is 3/3.5. main should be the standout but surprisingly it's the dessert. Despite the food was so-so, the service was attentive which is really good. I see the staff were accommodating to other customers. The male washroom toilet door does not shut / lock securely so that's not good. I had to use the toilet n was disturbed. Need fixing. I know this place been in business long time, over 10 years maybe 15 and always wanted to try their summerlicious/winterlicious menu and I finally get to but unfortunately I was underwhelmed. Not satisfied (besides the dessert and superb service but I'm a foodie so food takes big chunks of the mark and should be the star, key things to the restaurant business. I'm in the minority since many people gave n continue to give high ratings (avg is 4.5, which is high). I had better pad Thai elsewhere. Oh well. Would I go back, probably not but I guess for me, pad Thai is not their signature dish or specialty...I got the wrong entree, which left me bit disappointed since Thai food is one of my...

Checking out the distillery district and found this great place near by. Easy to find right off of richmond street Environment is quiet and cozy. The time i went wasn't busy at 8pm on a sunday so my group of 6 was seated immediately. Owner is very friendly and talks about Thailand and his background As well as gives recommendations which appealed to me enough to choose Two dishes i had was the Divine Crispy Morning Glory and Sasi’s #54 Red Chicken Curry with Lychee The morning glory is this battered spinach that is deep fried, in a similar manner as japanese tempura I shared this dish with others, great appetizer to start your meal Great flavour with a chili sauce to compliment with The red curry in a pineapple, loved the presentation! Felt like I ordered a plant decoration, creative use of the basil leaves which you can soak into the curry to get more herb flavour and can eat as well (if you choose to do so) I wanted a spicier curry, i did ask for spicy but seems i only got like a mild Regardless the curry was very flavourful and interesting with the lychee adding in sweetness, just perfect with my bowl of rice hehe Others ordered like the pad thai and fried rice, were all very pleased with their food The service, food and ambience of the dining area, definitely would recommend a visit if you're in the east side of the city! :D

If you are lucky on a trip you find a gem If you are lucky on a trip you meet nice people Go just go to Mengrai … - don’t scroll to the next option ….okay so you need some details 😁 First and foremost - this is a Thai restaurant and not just some restaurant that dishes out Thai food This is a Thai restaurant where the staff want you to have a nice Thai meal , not staff just doing the job and /or putting on a show to get tips and reviews And at the root of it all you have Allan and Sasi - the owners. I had the salad rolls starters - so fresh so clean so tasty The main was lovely, but great thing was it was on the recommendation of the waitress, I love it when the person taking the order is prepared to recommend trying something. My only issue was the portion size was so big there was just no way I could finish it and I worried about insulting the chef. But Allan the owner came and chatted to us and even got us to agree to let him make us a desert ( I still kinda suspect it was Sasi but not sure) lemongrass crème brûlée - to die for !! Sorry about the long review, but you just know when you happen to have picked the right place ran by the right people. One thing - if you arrive outside it and think “oh gosh not sure this place looks great” - put the thought to the one side and walk in It is genuinely a gem
