My girlfriend and I were hoping to stop by for some drinks and dinner during the beaches Jazz Fest and were very disappointed with our experience at Murphy's Law. We had dropped by around 6:30 and were told it was a busy night, though they would take my number and call when a table became available. We were fine with the 1 hour wait time we were quoted, as we aimed to go back and enjoy the Jazz Fest for a while longer. After waiting an hour and a half with no phone call, I called the restaurant back, gave them my name, let them know I was on the wait list, and asked what the wait was looking like. The guy who answered the phone sounded confused with my call, as he explained there were, "about 7 tables available on the back patio." We headed over there and once again were presented with two waitresses who claimed the wait was an hour long and the kitchen had been 'really backed up'. We were told that we were still on the wait list and I mentioned the person I had just spoken to on the phone had noted there were lots of tables on the back patio. For some reason they thought we had wanted the rooftop patio, even though we had clearly indicated we wished for the back. We explained we were okay with the back patio and were promptly led there by one of the waitresses who proceeded to offer us an awful table in a corner of the patio. She seemed perplexed as to why I mentioned to her at that point, that we did not wish to stay any longer and walked out. I have some advice for the management of this establishment:
My cousin and I went back this past Saturday to see about any changes made from the last time we came. WHAT A TURN AROUND! The server we had was amazingggg! His name is Sean and he was incredible and made sure we were taken cared of very well! He was outgoing, knowledge of what was on tap, and fun to have as a server. This time around, I got the Crunchy Chicken with sweet potato fries and it absolutely delicious! If you love pickles, you will not regret ordering this!!! My cousin got the Blackened Fish Sandwich with regular fries. It was also very delicious and cooked to perfection! The fries were so yummy!! Crunchy on the outside and it was just melt in your mouth delicious! We also had their dessert which is the chocolate cake, and it was so rich and decadent that it added an amazing finish to the delicious food we ordered!
I cannot stress enough how amazing the staff and manager were when it came to taking care of us! From Sean looking after us to the people who served our food, it was an absolute pleasure to have come back. It was a different experience from the first time, that's for sure!
NOTE: The below post was a few weeks back. Above, you'll see an updated review for when I went back! We sat outside in the patio despite the rain due to covid restrictions. It wasn't busy, so we wondered why the service took a big longer. Our server was nice, but it was mediocre just like their food. I ordered the PK Experience which was a burger with elk patty, but honestly it just tasted like a regular burger, it's not worth spending $22 especially with salty fries that went with it. My cousin ordered the tacos which she said we're meh, considering they gave her a dinky sized fish to go with it. It was filled mostly with a bunch of lettuce and a pineapple ring that was cut in half. Their tap selection was limited since we were told that there's a few taps that weren't...
Read moreI planned a large event (an Irish Wake of 60 to 80 people – coming and going at different times) at Murphy’s Law this past weekend. I have to say that the management and staff were incredible.
Obviously the event was somewhat short notice and while I do have a lot of experience planning events through my work, their GM/Events person Alison was awesome. They knew the right questions to ask and had answers for all of mine throughout the process. Completely painless.
The morning of, I came by early to set up and the on-site manager, Alex, went above and beyond to help with our AV. To the extent that I think he used his own phone to control our slideshow when some of our equipment failed.
Food was on point. I had asked in advance that food come out every hour on the half which they had no problem with – every plate was hot/fresh and offered to our guests politely without interrupting. Which brings me to our servers/bartenders. Jake and Lucy were fantastic. Completely accommodating and didn’t get annoyed when we stayed a little late.
Lastly, I also have to note how lovely the space was and how affordable the event itself turned out to be – especially for a Saturday afternoon (granted it was the winter so not peak season by any means). A nice point about the space itself is that is completely private, including the washrooms (vs sharing with downstairs restaurant guests). I would 100% hold another event here – and highly recommend it to others.
Thanks guys, you made a difficult/sensitive event completely...
