2/9:Compared to many other restaurants, this one had a relatively spacious seating layout. However, the taste of the food we ordered was inconsistent, and due to the long waiting time, we even had to cancel their signature dish "town famous sweet & sour pork," which was very disappointing. Among the dishes we ordered, the boiled pork ribs were the most disappointing, with more bones than meat, and especially because the meat was hard to separate from the ribs, which was very frustrating for diners. The roasted pig's trotter was the best, particularly after the disappointment we had with the previous dishes. This dish won unanimous praise from all of us, reversing our trend towards a lower rating. The pig skin was both glutinous and slightly chewy, and the barbecue seasonings deeply penetrated the meat, mitigating some of the greasiness. We hope to try the "Guo Bao Meat" next time to improve our opinion of it.
3/24:I went to this restaurant again today and felt it was even better than the last time. In addition to kebabs, I also ordered spicy shredded chicken, tomato and dough-bite soup, and the town famous sweet & sour pork. The spicy shredded chicken was surprisingly good, not only retaining the Sichuan cuisine style but also having a tender and smooth texture of the chicken. With the seasoning, it tasted very authentic. The tomato and dough-bite soup was quite new to me, possibly a Northern Chinese dish. The tomato and egg were delicious on their own, and adding the chewiness of the dough bites was truly enjoyable. I've had the town famous sweet & sour pork elsewhere and am not too fond of its sweetness. However, this restaurant's dish was a pleasant surprise. The crispiness greatly mitigated my discomfort with its sweetness, offering a delightful crunchiness similar to chewing on Ferrero Rocher...
Read moreThe food and variety of meat skewers at Street Grill were good.
For skewers, we had the following: The Beef Heart Artery Skewers were good with an interesting texture with each bite.
The Beef Shank Tip Skewers were good and savoury.
The Beef Brisket Skewers were over cooked sadly :( making them tough to eat.
The Sesame Lamb and Lamb Brisket Skewers were nicely seasoned and delicious. Would definitely recommend.
The Rice Gluten Dough Skewers were okay.
The Cabbage Skewers were good and crunchy.
The Pineapple Skewers were awesome. Would definitely recommend.
For the other dishes, we had the following: The Stir Fried Shredded Dough with Eggs & Pork was awesome. The fried shredded dough provided good texture while the egg and pork were delicious. Would definitely recommend.
The Sea Jellyfish & Cabbage Salad was refreshing and delicious.
The Sliced Cucumber, Carrots, Green Chili Pepper, Bean Curd Sheets with House Egg Sauce was good.
The Foil Box Garlic Enoki Mushrooms were a miss. It was okay but way too oily.
The Spicy Squid Tentacles was awesome. The squid tentacles were perfectly cooked and soaked in that spicy flavour.
The Bean Curd Cilantro Onion Rolls were good and delicious.
The Garlic Scallops with Chili Pepper were a miss. It was okay but not worth the price point as it’s more noodles than scallop.
The Garlic Eggplant was good. It was soft and savoury.
The Fried Rice Dough Stuffed with Brown Sugar dessert was awesome. The dough was soft and a bit crunchy and went well with the brown sugar.
We also tried a variety of drinks (see picture). Of the drinks, our favourite from highest to lowest were: Coconut Milk, Lemon Black Tea drink, Peach drink, and...
Read moreFood was amazing & very affordable! Service was excellent! Despite us not speaking Chinese, the staff were very patient & accommodating with the language barrier. I'm unsure why they don't have the English menu upfront for all guests to see without asking. However, our server was very kind to patiently wait at our table for us to order through their English menu.
The food arrived in a very timely manner. We ordered their BBQ pork belly skewers, BBQ lamb skewers, BBQ fresh mushroom skewers, & the BBQ pork skin skewers. The pork belly & lamb meat were super juicy, & the seasoning was superb--not overly spicy & full of flavour. Our server was thoughtful to offer different spice levels, & we chose the "less spicy" option, which turned out to be perfect both in flavour & for our low spice tolerance! The mushrooms were also very juicy & flavourful--perfect for vegetarians if they wanted to try! The pork skin was a bit chewy as expected but still tasted good overall.
Their "less spicy" BBQ seasoning was really the best part of their food. Again, I emphasize that their seasoning was still so delicious & super flavourful while not being overly spicy like other Chinese BBQ skewer spots. This place is definitely the best Chinese BBQ skewer spot I've had thus far (better than Chat Bar). Unfortunately they sold out of their beef skewers, but we'll definitely be returning next time to try everything again!
(P.S. You can thank me later for the...
