Myself and some friends unfortunately had a non-experience with this establishment. We had purchased some coupons through Travel Zoo some time ago for the Paddock. I believe it may have included one drink and some appetizers, We purchased two for around $40 or so.
Recently we decided to try the Paddock with some friends. We remembered we had the coupons but were disappointed to see that they had expired. On the coupon it did say that The Paddock could decide to still honour the coupons. I realized it was our own fault for letting them expire but I thought that it was worth a try to ask them. After all, why would they turn potential customers away when they would surely still turn a profit and would get new customers into their restaurant / bar?
Someone actually suggested to me that it is somehow not legal to sell coupons and put an expiry date on them.
I would think the Paddock would at least offer something in good faith to get a bunch of people in there to spend more money.
I called them up and spoke to a man who simply said, "No, those are way too old!". They had expired in November and it was now January. Not sure if that deserves a "way too old" ;label, but yes they were expired. Surprisingly, even though i mentioned a bunch of friends were planning on going, that was it. He simply accepted that we would probably not be going. And he actually suggested trying to get a refund from Travel Zoo, although Travel Zoo doesn't give refunds.
Now, the $40 isn't really the issue here. It's the style of customer service that I don't understand. Why would he do this? What else does it tell me about what they think of their customers and how they value them?
It makes me think that things must be really good at The Paddock that they can afford to turn customers away over such a trivial thing. It would have cost them nothing to at least tell us they would try and do something for us. Instead, we went somewhere else and spent our money.
The other thing it told me, is that he obviously doesn't appreciate the value of word of mouth. This could have easily been a positive experience for everyone. How can I now recommend this place to anyone?
By the way. I sent an email to The Paddock on their website, expressing the same concerns. They didn't even have the courtesy to offer any response. Confirming what I thought of them, they don't value their customers. There are many places that do, and I prefer to spend my money at...
Read moreThis place has been around for so many years. For those of you who used to go to Jeff Healeys bar way back when to see him and other great musicians play live music, you will remember it was beside the Paddock. So we have been going to this place for years when going to Healeys as well. Its kinda cool. It seems like a place Dracula would hang out at, lol. Or a great place to film a scary movie. As the color scheme is dark wood, black and red colors. It definitely has a unique feel to the atmosphere. I am not aware that this bar offers food. We now go here as an after-hours bar on the occasion. One last stop before heading home for the evening. Mixed younger croud. But welcoming to our older ages. The staff are all pretty cool, too. My only complaint is they don't carry Jamesons whiskey! And if you have a designated driver, your best bet to find parking is on...
Read moreI've been coming here often over the last month or so since I was told the kitchen is back up and running. The bar has a diverse selection of not only domestic and premium beers, but local craft brews and a cask beer as well. The environment is homely and inviting. The food menu is great as well. Nothing frozen, everything homemade. Beef and pork belly sliders on a homemade pretzel buns, basa fish and chips, huge crispy onion rings, all served in hearty portions with fresh aiolis. I enjoyed the eggplant parm stacked between a hearty helping of ricotta cheese served with a nice marinara and a zesty pesto; literally the best I've ever had. Highly recommended for a date spot or an intimate gathering spot...
