As far as Vancouver breweries go, Steamworks may not have the most inventive beer, but they do classic well. As a restaurant, it’s great: interesting building, classy food, and great beer. I visited the restaurant once in the distant past and don’t remember the details, but I remember that it left a good impression. Returned recently and had a great time again. Started off with drinks: I ordered a flight of Heroica Red Ale, Chuckanut Brown Ale, Umbrella Hazy Pale Ale, and Coconut Porter. They were apparently out of the Chuckanut, and without asking they replaced it with the Flagship IPA because it was “award-winning”. That is great but IPA’s are my least favourite beer. I can be coaxed into trying one if it’s got something unique going on but this beer is not trying to be anything except an IPA and while I can respect that, it was not for me. Luckily I was sharing with someone else and they took care of most of this one for me. The rest of the beers were what I hoped for, though. The food actually exceeded my expectations! I had the Tofu Goddess Bowl, and the tofu had this hot honey-esque sauce and a crispy coating that was delicious. I liked that this was a healthy option but was still very interesting and flavourful. We shared a Beeramisu at the table for dessert (shared between 3, but I can totally see it being manageable for one person if you’re hungry for dessert). As far as tiramisu goes it was average (I like mine pretty soaked in the espresso), but the inclusion of stout was great. It gave the tiramisu a smoky finish but it wasn’t too strong. The restaurant is huge (if you have the chance, walk around and check it all out) and they were busy, but they seem to have the appropriate volume of staff to handle the volume of customers. Our waitress was attentive and friendly despite having a lot of tables to keep track of. Other than the replacement beer in my flight, it was stellar service. I was also pleasantly surprised when we showed up at 6 on Saturday with no reservation and were seated immediately.

I found this place while looking for somewhere that was conveniently located from downtown Vancouver and from Gastown as we would be walking around. I also wanted to eat at a place that had food and drinks specific to the area. This place had great reviews and was recommended by locals. We walked up on a Friday night around 6pm and were able to get seated. The restaurant is large and spans many different spaces. We were led to the basement area which was less than fabulous ambiance. However we were excited to start our vacation so we just looked out the window and watched the scenery and the sea planes. At the time we went, we ordered the peach wit, the sour, and the IPA. All were really great with the peach being the best. The server was even nice enough to give us a little taster since we weren’t sure if we wanted to order it. The service was prompt and friendly, however it wasn’t very personal. The server felt like she was just going through the motions. We ordered the poutine for an appetizer. It came so quick that we had no plates to share, just our forks so we dug in. The cheese was already melted on the top which we liked. The gravy was also very thick. Overall we enjoyed our Canadian staple of poutine. For entrees we ordered the Hawaiian pizza, the seafood pasta, and the fish n chips. You can order 1 or 2 pieces. These pieces are as long as a cod filet so they are very large and very easy to share. They were hot and fresh and delicious. The seafood pasta was good but nothing special. The Hawaiian pizza looked, smelled, and tasted amazing. We happily enjoyed our meal here. There is a very large menu so there’s a chance we will visit again when in town to try many of the other things.

Why would you lie about a table reservation? We asked to be sat at the view table and were told it was reserved...ok. We found out definitely later that in fact it was not reserved. I don't know....next time you wanna sit at a better table and you're told it's reserved...maybe flash them a $20 bill and see what happens.... The space, vibe and energy in the upstairs dining area is really cozy. The service (Evan) was excellent. The Lager was great. The Dry Ribs were decent. The Nachos. Skip it. Here's why. This is going to make me sound like my parents...but....years ago Nachos would come with plenty of Cheese, Guac, Salsa and Sour Cream and either chicken or beef. Yeah! I know crazy! There was a day way back when all that was part of a dish called "NACHOS." If it weren't so bizarre, it would be funny to think that all those ingredients are an extra charge now. If I had to personify the Nachos here.....it would be someone completely naked....it's like...ok sweetheart lets get some clothes on you....(see pic.) Other than the lying hostess and the Nachos all else was ok.... We'll be back for the tasty beer and their pretty rocking menu.

A great place to go to have a sit down meal enjoying the scenery (large windows) and the unique vibe this place offers. I ordered the seafood chowder which was okay but wish I had ordered the beer soup (with chicken) after having a taste of my hubs. The beer is cold and quite a selection, will be visiting again before our departure. The restrooms are down a spiral staircase - not sure if they have an elevator. Addendum: we went back for dinner tonight (Monday evening) and hubs ordered Tuscan pizza and I ordered the healthy option of salmon green goddess bowl. The pizza was phenomenal (one of the best we have had anywhere). Mine wasn’t bad either but would have devoured the pizza if I had ordered. The best bonus of the night was our new friend/server/waiter Lane who was extremely helpful with brews, recommendations for us for tomorrow’s outing at Victoria Island. He truly is a great human being, extremely kind to visitors esp from US. Thanks Lane!!! LEO! Love one another. Hope to see you again someday. One last note - the Kolsch brew option is great for the lager lovers.

This was my second time visiting. I really enjoyed my first visit, so I expected this one to be good too. We initially sat on the patio, but I found the vibe there wasn't particularly special. Personally, I preferred the atmosphere downstaris. For food, we ordered the Aranchini and Tofu bowl. We waited a while for our food, and when it finally arrived, the food was already lukewarm. But in terms of taste, both were good, especially the Tofu bowl, which I really enjoyed. Regarding service, my friend wanted a sweeter white wine and asked the server a recommendation. She decided to get the recommended one, but soon after, he brought a red wine instead, saying it was the sweetest wine they had. She accepted it, but it was very unexpected and a little bit absurd since she asked for white wine, and he didn't confirm if she was ok with red wine. After we changed our table to inside, the service was fine. Overall, it was a bit of a disappointing visit. But still, I really enjoyed the food, beer and service during my first visit so I'd like to give it another chance.

Steamworks is just a solid place to eat. Great location with a nice overlook out to the harbor. Great atmosphere inside both on the normal level and the basement level. The service was really good and the food was solid. We had the Salmon & Risotto done cajun style. I was tepid in that I did not want a New Orleans style spice taste in my Pacific Northwest fish mindset but they turned it into a more fish like PNW experience somehow. Both of us loved that entire dish. Also told our awesome server we did not want to indulge on dessert but "hypothetically" if a Beeramisu (Tiramisu) showed up with two spoons we would not complain - ha. Nice treat. Also the pretzel with Dijon Mustard dip was an outstanding first thing to nibble on. I/we would go back to Steamworks again.....and I even remembered coming here years past when the downstairs had an oyster bar. No oysters anymore but the food choices are still outstanding.
