Last week, I visited Stepho’s Souvlaki Greek Taverna on Davie Street in Vancouver, and it was truly an outstanding experience. From the moment I walked in, I was welcomed by a cozy and friendly atmosphere that set the perfect tone for an enjoyable meal. The restaurant’s décor is inspired by traditional Greek style, featuring vibrant blue awnings and checkered tablecloths, creating an authentic taverna feel in the heart of the city. I ordered the Roast Lamb, and it was one of the most delicious dishes I’ve ever tasted. The meat was incredibly tender, juicy, and flavorful, beautifully infused with Mediterranean spices. It literally melted in my mouth, with a delightful crispy crust that added a perfect textural contrast. The portion was very generous, which pleasantly surprised me considering the moderate price. The dish was served with fragrant rice, roasted potatoes, and a fresh Greek salad. The potatoes were perfectly roasted—crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The rice was aromatic and tender, with subtle spicy notes enhancing its flavor. The Greek salad was vibrant and fresh, featuring ripe tomatoes, crunchy cucumbers, olives, and a generous portion of feta cheese, lightly dressed to create a perfect balance of flavors. Every component of the dish complemented each other harmoniously, creating a complete and satisfying culinary experience. The taste was truly authentic, making me feel like I was on the sunny coast of Greece. I must highlight the exceptional service. My server, Anissa, was incredibly attentive and friendly. She took my order promptly and made sure every detail was perfect to meet my expectations. Despite the restaurant being quite busy, the food was served on time. It was delightful to see how genuinely the staff cared about their customers. The ambiance in the restaurant is warm and welcoming. It has a relaxed and laid-back vibe, perfect for dining alone or gathering with friends. Despite the lively atmosphere, the noise level was moderate, allowing for comfortable conversation and a pleasant dining experience. The prices at Stepho’s were surprisingly reasonable. My hearty roast lamb meal cost $25.67 (including tax), which is a great value considering the quality and portion size. I left the restaurant feeling completely satisfied and content, knowing I received excellent value for my money. My visit to Stepho’s Souvlaki Greek Taverna was genuinely enjoyable. Delicious and hearty food, friendly service, cozy atmosphere, and reasonable prices make this one of the best places in Vancouver for lovers of Greek cuisine. I was particularly impressed by the authentic taste of the dishes—this place truly knows how to prepare traditional Greek delicacies. If you’re looking for a spot to enjoy a delicious meal in a warm and welcoming setting, I highly recommend visiting Stepho’s. I will definitely be returning soon!

Read moreIt is our tradition to bring our friends whose visiting us from other part of the globe to Stephos when they are close leaving Vancouver. We are so thrilled to share how great the food and how great is the service. Few days ago, August 13, 2025, around 1930H ish; we are total of five people and as soon as we get inside the restaurant; a female host greets us; we told her that we would like to be seated to a brighter area. She said OKAY until after a male staff approach us and told us that a table further. Back close to the kitchen area is what he suggests for us to be seated; my husband and myself told him that we ask the host to set us where it is brighter; we decline his offer. He was so intense; and keeps on saying that we will end up waiting for another hour if we want to be seated somewhere else than what he is suggesting; we told him it is okay for us to wait or to give us few minutes to discuss as a group; and yet he was so agitated; so, we Told him to give us a time to discuss; and he was like “you have five minute to discuss “otherwise I am going bring people in; and we told him to go ahead. When we asked to speak to a manager; and see if he or she oversee the situation in a calmly and professional. Manner: he responded I am the manager! While we are in the middle of deciding; we saw him bringing five people on same area that we are trying to ask to be seated. Instead of confronting him (manager) I stand up and asked to speak to him; and yet he was loud and sounds like mad. Worst thing he told me was “you are welcome to leave!! I told him we have been coming here for almost two decades; we are bringing friends over. Like right now they are from Switzerland and Philadelphia; and he looks like he does not care. Despite his intimidating demure, we decided to stay; and the server who served us. Said “thank you for staying with us “and hopefully when you come back next time. “He is no longer working with us.” The entire stay that manager never apologize for his behavior! What happened to the mission of “Serve it right BC? My Husband and myself are so embarrassed with how this experience turned out. I am not sure if we will keep this tradition after this very unpleasant experience. “A manager must ensure a positive and welcoming environment for guests. Handling requests/complaints; and resolving issues promptly.” Unfortunately, this manager doesn’t represent these qualities, hopefully Stephos will eventually see that he is not the right choice to represents this...
Read moreAfter a considerable time, I revisited Stephos, and from my recollections, the modest portion of souvlaki was a substantial and satisfying serving. However, during this recent visit, I decided to order both a lamb souvlaki and a chicken souvlaki. Unfortunately, the lamb portion was exceedingly small, consisting of merely four tiny pieces. The rice appeared lackluster in quantity, and the portion of vegetables was notably meager. I couldn't help but notice that the restaurant was nearly empty when I arrived to collect my order, and there was a woman expressing dissatisfaction with her own order. Whatever alterations have occurred, it's evident that the experience has changed significantly.
The quality of the food was underwhelming, with the lamb being tough, and my companion's chicken souvlaki required reheating in the microwave due to being under cooked. In the past, this establishment used to be bustling, with long lines of eager customers. However, something has unquestionably shifted, and the current state of affairs does not reflect the original Stephos. Regrettably, I cannot recommend this place to anyone. The food falls below acceptable standards, and the pricing for what I received borders on absurd.
It's imperative for this establishment to modernize and restore the portions to their former size. What's even more disappointing is the fact that an additional portion of a mere four lamb pieces incurs an extra charge of $4. This sort of pricing approach is disheartening. I observed the restaurant to be eerily empty during dinner hours, which raises concerns about its well-being. The quality of the food was subpar. This restaurant must either enhance its offerings significantly or consider closing its doors to make way for more innovative Greek dining establishments.
Even though it bears the same name, customers should be aware that poor food quality won't go unnoticed. They provide parking at the back, but the state of cleanliness and upkeep as you enter from the rear suggests neglect. I am certain that the previous state of this Stephos was never as lackluster. Whoever is currently managing this establishment needs to take immediate action to improve...
