My family and I have been coming to this restaurant for over 10 years. We generally know the family that owns it through my extended family. As a university student I saw a groupon for the place for 15 for $30 worth of food for 2 people, 2 groupons may be used for tables of 4, and thought this would be a great place to treat my parents and brother to dinner. Upon arrival, the restaurant was quite empty, but it was late on a Thursday, and the waiter sat us. We showed the waiter the groupon and he told us that "Oh I am sorry but you cannot use two because you are a family" So I at first appologized and said sorry, I did not see that in the fine print. He said well no it isn't in the fine print. That is where I went on to explain that he cannot change the terms of the groupon and discriminate because we are a family. So I went to say well this is my coworker and his wife and this is my boyfriend, because if we were 4 strangers we would be aloud to use two..... he started getting defensive and said but I can see you are a family. I went on to explain that it is there job to tell groupon what they would like printed on the groupon add. If it had said not available for families of 4 only two separate couples, I would understand. He kept blaming groupon, and said "I do not care about your personal life", and "are you done?" At that point we decided to leave. I have never been so disrespected by a restaurant like this before. I also have taken it up with groupon, and they said that I was right, and that Trocadero would have to tell them to put that into the add. Unfair, rude, and discriminating towards a family to get more money out of our dinner. When yes we had $60 dollars to spend with the groupon, but the bill would have most likely come close to $150. I am retracting all recommendations to this restaurant that I have made to friends and family over the...
Read moreWorst Place EVER!!! I ordered take out from them tonight. I ordered half rack of ribs which on their website was advertised as 18.95 including the side (lasagna, potatoes, rice, or spaghetti) and I picked lasagna. When I get there the bill was $26 and I asked her if the lasagna was extra and she said no it's included and inquired about the price and all she said was: "That's the price". I brought up the fact that on the website it says $18.95 but she didn't seem to be concerned about the false advertisement which I assumed maybe they just haven't updated their website yet so I let that one slide. The worst part was when I got home and finally opened the container, the rack looked disgusting, and was undercooked and it looked like they tried to cover for it by overdoing the BBQ sauce(I guess they forgot to sizzle it on the grill for a little longer). The garlic bread was an absolute joke: it was a the hardest bread I'd ever eaten; I could barely bite it. The only reason I gave it a two star was because of the lasagna which was descent. I'm still trying to figure out how $18 turned into $26. If the food was good I wouldn't make a fuss about it. But when you dishonestly rip people off like that, make sure you make up for it , which they failed to do in every aspect. Won't be ordering from them again, let...
Read moreA couple of years ago when I was visiting my friends in East Van we ended up going to Trocadero one night for dinner and drinks and I remember the food was really good. So when I moved back home again recently and my boyfriend wanted to go out for a quiet dinner one night, I suggested Trocadero mainly cause it's close and the prices are pretty reasonable.
Well it was definitely quiet, probably cuz it's kind of off the main track I guess, but the service was okay and friendly, and we had a good evening.
But the real reason we wanted to post this review is their pizza is among the best in East Van - you gotta try it! Plus their delivery guy is awesome!!
Jan 2016 update: Me and my boyfriend had dinner at Trocadero again about a month ago and I remembered I said before that we recommend ordering take out cuz this isn't the kind of place you'll feel comfortable hanging out at. I wanted to clarify why I said that. It's just that the place kind of has an older decor and clientèle so if you're a younger person (I'm 27) it may feel more like your parent's kind of hangout. But the service was really good again and the food was amazing!
So eat in or take out, but definitely check it out! Trocadero might just be one of Vancouver's...
