If you're looking for a truly immersive and authentic Chinese hot pot experience, SLK is without a doubt the place to visit! Located in the heart of West Edmonton Mall, this restaurant offers so much more than just a meal – it provides a sensory journey into the rich flavors and traditions of Chinese hot pot. From the moment you step inside, the atmosphere transports you to China, with beautiful, detailed decor that enhances the entire dining experience. It’s the perfect blend of elegance and comfort, creating the ideal setting for a meal that’s both indulgent and memorable.
What really stands out at SLK is the level of service. The staff is exceptional – knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive without being overbearing. The server was incredible, taking the time to walk us through the menu with expertise and passion for the food they serve. They made fantastic recommendations tailored to our preferences, ensuring that every part of our experience was personalized and enjoyable. It’s clear that the staff is genuinely dedicated to making your meal as enjoyable as possible.
The selection of broths is fantastic, offering a wide range of flavors to suit any palate. We opted for a trio of broths – Butter Spicy, Pork Bone, and Tomato – which blended together beautifully, each offering a distinct yet complementary flavor profile. For those who aren't fans of too much heat, the spice level can be adjusted, which is a nice touch to make the meal more accessible to everyone. The broths are rich and deeply flavorful, providing the perfect base for the ingredients to shine.
Speaking of ingredients, the quality is top-notch. Fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared, the hot pot items – from thinly sliced meats to fresh seafood – were an absolute delight. A nice touch is the shrimp, which the server peels for you, ensuring that you can focus on enjoying the meal without any hassle. The attention to detail is evident in every aspect of the meal, from the way the food is presented to the way the staff consistently checks in to make sure you’re having a great time.
The sauce bar deserves a special mention – it’s a dream come true for anyone who loves to customize their dipping sauce. With a wide variety of sauces and condiments to choose from, you can create your perfect combination to elevate the flavors of your hot pot. Additionally, the sauce bar includes some fun extras like spring rolls, seaweed, and bean curd skin, as well as fresh cut fruit and desserts – all of which are available for unlimited consumption. It’s such a thoughtful touch that adds to the overall experience.
To top it all off, the meal ends with a refreshing scoop of ice cream in a few different flavors like vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry. It’s the perfect way to cleanse your palate after a rich and flavorful hot pot feast.
Overall, SLK is the perfect destination for any special occasion or when you simply want to treat yourself to something extraordinary. The combination of fantastic food, impeccable service, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere makes this restaurant stand out as one of the best in the city. I can't wait to return for another unforgettable meal. Highly...
Read moreI am extremely disappointed with my experience at ShooLoongKan. I brought my family here for dinner after hearing great things from friends, but unfortunately, our visit left us feeling uncomfortable and dissatisfied. From the reviews, it seems like customer service is usually very good, but that was not our experience. One particular employee, Evelyn?? (rude, pale, very tall, black hair, thick accent), made our visit especially unpleasant. Our first interaction with her was when we had a question about a menu item. Since our server wasn’t available, we politely waved her down. She made eye contact with me but rolled her eyes and ignored us, choosing instead to continue laughing and chatting with her colleagues. This immediately stood out to us. Throughout our meal, we noticed that she spent more time loudly gossiping in Mandarin with another employee (a chubby boy with glasses) than actually working. She was openly speaking negatively about her colleagues and supervisor, which we found incredibly unprofessional especially since most of the staff we interacted with were polite and attentive. It truly seemed like she was more focused on workplace drama than providing good service. Additionally, we observed that she did not wash her hands after touching her face and hair, even when handling food. This was extremely unhygienic and honestly made me lose my appetite. Is this the kind of staff ShooLongKan hires? At my workplace, behavior like this especially in front of customers would not be tolerated. We will likely not be returning, and I’ll be sharing this negative experience with my friends. I strongly suggest retraining Evelyn to ensure that future customers don’t have to experience the same discomfort my family and I did.
Edit: I’m extremely disappointed by your response. Instead of addressing the issue, you dismissed my complaint by saying you don’t have an employee matching my description. I clearly saw Evelyn’s name tag, if she’s not an employee, does your store allow customers to make the food? I’ve been to every hot pot place in Edmonton, and this is by far the worst experience I’ve had and my impression of this entire franchise is now tainted. I expected a much more serious and proactive approach rather...
Read moreSo far, I’ve visited Shoo Loong Kan Hotpot four times, and two of those visits were quite disappointing, largely due to a host named Asia. Her attitude was unprofessional and made what should have been an enjoyable experience feel frustrating.
The first incident occurred when I arrived around 3 PM, before the restaurant opened, and queued up. My friend was running a few minutes late, but I informed Asia that they would arrive within five minutes. Despite this, she insisted that we both needed to be there together to enter, and while I was still explaining, she repeatedly turned to chat with another host, completely disregarding me. This lack of attention and courtesy felt extremely disrespectful. Later, while we were eating, I noticed that someone at the table next to us was allowed to enter the restaurant and wait for their party. I found this very puzzling, THIS IS DISCRIMINATION!
The second bad experience happened recently. When we were seated, my friend accidentally bumped her head on the low chandelier at the seat. We approached Asia to ask if we could switch seats, but her response was that: “The seats are all like this, really, it’s because you’re too tall.” We weren’t complaining, just hoping to change to a more comfortable seat to avoid further incidents. Are slightly taller people not supposed to dine at Shoo Loong Kan? It felt like an unreasonable response, especially when we were just trying to avoid further discomfort.
While the hotpot itself is delicious, the poor service, particularly from Asia, really detracts from the overall experience. I hope the restaurant will improve its customer service, especially by providing better training for staff like Asia, so that all customers can feel...
