On Saturday November 30th I had to deal with the rudest manager and staff. I couldn’t believe the lack of customer service.
We had a group of 18 people and we had our dinner at Tapley’s and none of us will return. We had a nice meal and drinks and all paid the bills and left. Later on in the evening I tried to go to Moe Joes and the bouncer said I was banned. I thought it was a joke but on the system it said I hadn’t paid my bill in Tapleys and I was now banned from all Gibson owned bars. I showed him the proof of payment from my bank account on my phone so he advised that I go back to Tapleys and show them and get it sorted.
The manager at Tapleys was rude, degrading and disrespectful to me and my 3 friends who accompanied me. He accused me of not paying my bill and when I showed him the proof he initially ignored it. He talked down to us and made us feel like we were the scum beneath his shoe. Then our server from earlier came over and said “it was a different group, she’s fine” this server didn’t even look at me or apologise for the error. She and a few others were laughing at us. The manager just rolled his eyes and ‘unbanned’ me on the system and said it’s sorted. I asked why it happened in the first place. He just aggressively said ‘it’s sorted” again. Again, I received no apology for the error.
My friends and I were horrified at the way we were being treated. We had tipped our server extremely well (automatic gratuity applied for the big table AND we also all tipped individually so she got double tipped - she never informed us about the automatic gratuity, another error but we only realised after.) As we left upset, still asking why it happened and why we were still being treated so terribly even though it was a case of mistaken identity as it was someone else and not me, the bouncer had his party line of ‘the guy with the red coat was causing hassle at the bar’. Clearly a party line because 1. No one in our group was wearing a red jacket and 2. We had our dinner at 7pm, had drinks and left at 9:30pm. We were a calm group just looking for dinner after a day of skiing.
Horrible experience. Gibsons have just lost...
Read moreI write this review, as my company and I wait to be served. It has been approximately 15 minutes since we sat down. We are lead to our seats by the bouncer who appears to be intoxicated. His unceremonious demeanor and slurred speech likely indicates either an overconsumption of alcohol or the telltale signs of hypoglycemia.
I have since attempted to make eye contact with the waiter, gesturing that we had not yet been served. She leered at me, in what I believe is her response to an ostensible wooing. We remain unsure if our table is at all tended, albeit the presence of victuals among contiguous parties.
Our luck has taken a turn! The very same attendant staff who leered at me not minutes prior has begun to make her way to our table. A snag! Unfortunately, she is quite familiar with the patrons occupying the table next and has begun raffishly commiserating. There is no longer any evidence that she wishes to carry out her charge and instead contents herself in the company of friends.
Our luck has changed once again! Surely Bacchus smiles glady upon us. Having concluded the business with her compatriots, the server approaches and sheepishly smiles, apparently aware of her previous misunderstanding. "A pitcher of Stella, please." My companion asks, presently. "No, we are out." The order abruptly denied, he exclaims, "a pitcher of Budweiser then!" An assiduous retort! "And, food?" "No... we are fine."
The jug arrives punctually and filled to the brim. Its volume tasting as one might expect. Our thirst finally satiated we settle into our night; contented in our amity, counting our blessings.
3/5 stars 🌟 🌟 🌟 Overall, somewhat expensive, but good atmosphere. The service was amenable, especially when contrasted with our previous experience at the Amersterdam Café Pub, which can only be described as...
Read moreIt has been a long time since I've been in Tapley's, but I thought I would give it another chance, I shouldn't have bothered.
The food is average at best, and given the culinary choices in Whistler, I would suggest it is a step up from the Roundhouse cafeteria but not a big one. Really, there are so many better options... for example, the Beacon around the corner or if you do want to hang with the locals, hit Furniture Warehouse for better drink specials and better food.
The atmosphere is dated... and the music is so loud you can't have a conversation without yelling... even outside is noisy.
Service... midafternoon to late afternoon on a weekday it was almost like the wait staff was nursing the remnants of their weekend hangovers, resulting in a feeling they were indifferent or even resentful of us being there and we were interrupting whatever else they had going on.
They often refer to this pub as the "locals' living room." So if you want to feel like you're back at that awkward teenage party you just showed up at when you don't know the kid hosting it, this is the place for you.
If you're looking for a real taste of Whistler, there are so many more refined choices just steps away that IMHO you shouldn't waste your...
