One of the best day trips in my travels ! Stayed at the Hyatt and hopped on board the skylynx shuttle which departs at the hotel at 8am, arrives at the whistler village at 10am, purchased gondola etickets in advance and can just redeem at the door without fuss, short queues. Make sure you check with their ‘peak live’ camera before you go to avoid disappointment. Whistler Mt was covered in the clouds that morning so we went to Blackcomb first via a 10min walkway from whistler village. Did the Alpine flower walk in the mist and saw lots of marmots (hiding on the top of boulders and hills at end of trail. Then when the sky cleared we took the peak2peak gondola to Whistler, great view of the canyon and distant glacier. Arrived at the Whistler gondola around 12 and 10min unpaved steeper walk (not for wheelchair access) to the Peak Express chair lifts (maybe challenging for those who are scared of heights or with disabilities), which take you to the Cloudraker and Raven Eye lookout. As exciting as those in Swiss alps. The Inuksuk stature overlooks the distant majestic Black Tusk pinnacle - breathtaking. We did three short walks and even caught sight of the Snow Wall (half of that has melted) in the middle of summer ! The trails were well maintained but unpaved so need hiking shoes. Views of the undulating landscape of the Rockies were unforgettable. Returned to Whistler village at 4pm and had time to do some shopping....
Read moreFor skiing, this is the busiest base camp to start at but it's also the biggest ski school area. It does get really crowded at the school and beginner run areas but these are still the most beginner friendly runs at Whistler in my opinion.
We took our kids (ages 6-9, all beginners) here on a Wednesday during springbreak, and went up the Whistler Village Gondola to do some runs around Upper Whiskey Jack but then went higher to hit up Family Ski area.
The kids had a couple of days of ski school at Creekside and Blackcomb but occasionally had a hard time with the crowded runs and speed of these runs. We took Green runs the whole way, but these runs are much faster than what our kids are used to in SoCal. They loved it but I just wanted to warn others coming here for the first time.
We ended up spending the whole day up and down these runs, going to the top of the gondola, skiing all the way down. It was snowing up top and pretty slushy towards the bottom. Nevertheless, everyone had a blast as it's a huge mountain with plenty of long runs to ski. Definitely head over to Blackcomb if you're an intermediate or...
Read moreIts a nice experience to view and enjoy the mountains from top. And rightly said on th3 site NOT YOUR AVERAGE GONDOLA RIDE
At 436m/1,427 ft above the valley floor, the PEAK 2 PEAK is the world’s highest lift of its kind and a marvel of engineering linking Blackcomb Gondola to the Village Gondola in one continuous lift system.
So if you are a nature enthusiast and do not know how to ski or snowboard but want some awsome content created, then these rides will be your best bet.
We went in march, offseason, winter ending and spring starting. So winter sightseeing tickets included both up/down gandola with peak 2 peak between whistler and blackcomb mountain and it costs 79 CAD per person if done at the sight and 71 CAD if done online.
You can ride a bus from downtown, enjoy the scenic beauty in sea to sky highway and reach at whistler gatway bus loop. From there its a 5 minute walk to the gandola.
Have a great day, and a must do if you love...
