One of the better pizza places in town, I discovered Chicago Phils on unrelated business at the apartment building the restaurant is adjacent to and decided to try it out. I was definitely not disappointed, we had decided to order "the beast" which is 10 toppings, so I was skeptical how the cook would be on it. I'm happy to say, It was perfect, no part of it was undercooked or soggy and it was very filling.
A few weeks later we had decided to give the deep dish a try...and wow the thing was loaded to the hilt with toppings and cheese and one large is easily enough for 3 or 4 hungry guys. I definitely recommend giving this one a try at least once!
As an added bonus, this place is usually open till 5am on weekdays and 6am on weekends, if im not mistaken, this is the only pizza joint in town open that late.
Half star taken off because they are sometimes hard to reach to place an order and there is 2 different numbers to call, also placed an order 5 hours ahead of time and they thought i was prank calling (seen a late night movie at 11pm-2am and asked for pickup at 2:45) thankfully they made it since it was the deepdish (1hr cooktime).
Another halfstar removed for general customer service, they aren't rude or unfriendly, just very little in the way of interaction unless your a regular.
To finish up this lengthy review, as other people have said, bring $30-$40 (typically what you'll spend if buying a whole pizza or two) cash with you as that's their preferred method of payment and the debit machine isn't always available, I understand why, as they are charged per transaction, it cuts into profits, however this is also a reason for an...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI thought that I was in luck because I found a place that could deliver till 6 am on the weekends. I called and asked to make an order for delivery, and a woman with a thick accent had let me know that their driver had left already. So she said that she would give me a deal if I took a cab down there. I placed an order for wings $8.88, Greek salad $9.99 and a small deep dish $13.25. Not only did she try to convince me that 4 toppings was enough on the pizza that's advertised to have 6 toppings for that price, but she also had the nerve to tell me the total was $45! For what is advertised in the menu to be a total of $32.12 and $35.97 with tax. Go ahead and take a look at the prices for yourselves. I hung up and she preceded to call me back multiple times till I finally answered. At that point she offered my order for $40 instead of the ridiculous $45 she initially tried to swindle me for. I then told her that this is still $4 more than the full price of everything that I had ordered. The sad thing is I probably would have given them a 5 or 10 dollar tip if she would have honored her initial offer to reduce the price if I took a cab there. I'm very insulted and hope that anyone reading this doesnt fall for this trickery. It must be easy for these people to take advantage of drunk and stoned people this early in the morning. But not me babe... not me. š (Boston George...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have complicated feelings about Chicago Phil. LOL. Why are there not more Chicago Deep Dish Pizzerias? Years ago (15), i lived a block from Chicago Phil's and it was my go-to pizza place. Loved their deep dish pizza. Loved their panzerottis/Calzones. I would've given them a 5/5 back then. I've since moved from Winnipeg, but when I visit Winnipeg each summer, i attempt to order a Chicago Phil's pizza and it's been years since I've been able to order one. One time, i had sworn they had closed down, Google said they were open. I called multiple times; no answer (no answering message either if i remember). I showed up to order one afternoon and the doors were locked. On another visit to Winnipeg, i made contact with someone, but the person i spoke to on the phone told me the cook who can make the deep-dish was out and expected back in 30-45 min. I tried later, but apparently the deep-dish pizza cook didn't come in that day. I totally acknowledge that this review spans decades. I assume Chicago Phil's is under different ownership. Also that one bad hire can mess up the customer service. My family keeps asking me why i'm continually trying to...
