I first came across Big Grains on Instagram as I was on a quest for a decent canelé in Hong Kong.

It has been my to-go list for awhile now especially after reading the story about how the brothers started the business. Yes I am a bit sensitive but I think good pastries are art and you do it best with heart!

Anyway, I have finally made it today with a friend and tried a few of their products: • canelé, what I came here for, was certainly above average. Will come back for more. • pistachio tart, both of us were impressed. Very nutty yet light. • Earl grey chocolate tart, we think it will be even better if the Earl grey flavour was stronger as the chocolate was overwhelming. We love the tart base tho. • white peony tea, I didn’t try that but my friend like it.

Will definitely...

Big Grains is a local bakery with a few branches around the city including this place along Tai Wo Street in Wanchai. Opening hours are 8am to 8pm daily. They have a small standing area next to the window. Otherwise, this is a typical take-away style bakery. There is a small park across the street if looking for a place nearby.

Big Grains has a range of traditional bread items along with quite a few creative breads, tarts, dessert concoctions that make them more interesting then your everyday bakery here in Hong Kong. Prices are fair, service fast and breads taste just fine. Expect the shop to be fairly busy as they are a popular choice with locals because of their unique...

This is the second branch of BG with it's first in Jordan. The shop in Jordan is much smaller compared to this concept store and they serve teas here as well. My first visit to BG in Jordan wasn't impressive as the selections were quite Asian such as the filled bagels with pork floss so I didn't have any expectations at this branch. Got the scallion prawn roe sweet soft bread.

It was soft as stated with a lovely scallion aroma, every bite was quite good with scallion and dried prawn roe. The only complaint was the scallion was a bit oily and somehow I go the shats later that day so I wonder if it was the prawn roe because they...
