Absolutely amazed by what I received today.
Most of my experiences with Indian food in HK have ranged from bad to terrible - not this one.
I ordered Achaari Paneer Roll with Gunpowder Fries and Mango Lassi.
The roll I was surprisingly good - and it contained an absolutely huge amount of paneer, specially compared to rolls in India. The paneer was fresh and decadent. They can improve the rolls in the following areas though: the roll should have been crispier, the paneer should have been grilled until charred, there should have been more veggies and onion slices in the roll, and most importantly this roll had no achaar flavour.
The fries were quite good and absolutely drowning in the gunpowder masala - the sauce served with it was also nice but I think the sauce shouldn’t have any spice (because the fries already have too much of it so there needs to be a counterbalance).
Finally, the Mango Lassi - while it is a far cry from what you can have in India, specially in the parts that I come from - it is still pretty decent and that’s the most I’ve ever praised a lassi made out of India. Improvements could be using actual Alphonso/Haphus mango and adding blobs of makkhan.
Overall, I was impressed enough that I am comparing this restaurant with those in India - so I’m pretty happy with it.
Keep it up, and I really hope that you can implement some of my suggestions....
Read moreWe went for the Diwali menu set at Bengal Brothers Wan Chai. The starters in the set were good, but none of the mains tasted good. Among the mains, the daal was awfully bad, the chicken was dry. When the server came to ask us how the food was, we told her the starters were good but the mains were not good. To that she replied, it’s because you are already full from the starters. I had to stop this attempt at gaslighting and say “no it’s because the taste of the mains is bad”. Anyway after that they forgot to serve us the shahi tukda (the dessert that was part of the set) but at that point we were so disappointed and the bar was set so low that we didn’t remind them, we just paid the bill and left. I can understand why a set menu where the chef prepared a ton of food for every guest can be a hit or miss but I don’t appreciate the servers’ cheeky and disrespectful attitude towards guests. The whole thing left a sour note on the Diwali experience for us, which is a shame because we have previously ordered takeaway from Bengal brothers and we did like the...
Read moreI had the Market Chicken Tikka roll which was fresh and tasty. The veggies were nice and crispy, not soggy and over cooked. The chicken is lean and high quality. The sauce is very nice, and they don't load it up so it ends up being a soggy mess at the end. Eat it from the top down and leave the wrapper on and peel it off as you go though! My friend had the Railway Lamb Roast roll, and he loved it. I'm going to try the beef roll next time, it looks great. The restaurant is bright, clean and has a cool vibe. They play cool music too which adds to the ambiance. Mainly a take away place but there are a few seats and if you are lucky to get one you will have a great view of the street cars and the world going by. It's a nice place to hang out and enjoy some great food and do some people watching. This is going to be my go to place for for quick and healthy food! Oh, I also had the Gunpowder fries which were hot and crispy and have a very...
