Stopped by Burger Joys on Lockhart Road for a decent burger lunch recently. Burgers here are similar to what you will find at the Five Guys and Shack Shake which have both opened up nearby in Wanchai this year. Prices at Burger Joys are about 20% higher. Opening hours are 11am to 6am daily.
I recently ordered a cheeseburger (HK$109) with jalapeno (+HK$13). Patty was grilled fine and served on a brioche bun with fresh toppings. Overall, a pretty good burger but pricey for what they charge. Ordered the cajun fries (HK$49) which were a medium sized serving of thin cut fries with cajun seasoning poured on top. I didn't care for these much and found them similarly expensive for what was served.
Service was very inattentive while I was there. Only two tables occupied, plenty of staff but it was difficult getting their attention for my bill. Similarly challenging getting someone to come take my payment. Finally dropped it off at the cashier and walked out after 5 more minutes of waiting around. That was really a really odd part part of my Burger Joys experience.
In the end, Burger Joys isn't bad but I worry they will have trouble now with the Five Guys having opened their big American style burger joint just two blocks over on Johnston Road. The Five Guy burgers are more affordable, toppings are free and beverages served on free refill basis. In my honest opinion, the Five Guys burgers are tastier while their fries are much better. In this regard, Burger Joys may need to up their game if...
Read moreWe ordered two cheeseburgers with blue cheese, which were both packed with ingredients like tomatoes, cheese, pickles, and onions. The lightly grilled bun was soft and fluffy, with an exceptionally good, buttery taste. 🧈 The portion of blue cheese was generous, though the taste was a bit too strong. Wouldnt recommend adding blue cheese at Burger Joys. If you’ve tried the Blue Cheese Burger at GBK in 🇬🇧 before, you’d know GBK’s one tastes much better than this. As for side dishes, buffalo wings were a bit tough to chew while the thin-cut fries were overcooked as well- too hard and dry! Ordered two milkshakes in cookies and cream 🍪 and strawberry 🍓 flavours. Didn’t particularly like them as well since they were a bit too runny while the strawberry one was overly sweet. This restaurant was claimed to be offering one of the 50 best burgers in the world. However, gotta say we were quite disappointed in it. Food tasted average but was somewhat pricey. Would prefer Five Guys more, which is just two blocks away and it offers tastier and more affordable...
Read morePoor staff attitude. It's the little things that make a dining experience pleasurable, and this place can't seem to get that right. First off, burgers and wings are pretty good! Burgers are wayyyy overpriced, but it's HK so what can you do? My main beef, if you'll pardon the pun, is the inflexibility of the staff. We went there with a 10% off Eatigo, clearly a way to get customers in, but then were told of all the limitations on using it that made it virtually worthless. We were told that we could not partake in any other specials, like happy hour drinks or meal combos. I probably would have had a few drinks, but instead drank my own water. We weren't even allowed to order the 12 piece wings, but were instead charged for two 6 piece wings, not even a promo... just a regular menu item! It felt a bit like bait and switch. Made us feel bad for using an Eatigo they signed up for. We didn't argue or complain, just felt bad about eating there. Probably won't...
