Review: Oh, where do I even begin with this restaurant? Words cannot do justice to the mind-boggling, unforgettable experience I had during my visit. Prepare yourself for an extraordinary culinary adventure that will leave you speechless, though perhaps not in the most conventional sense.
Let me start by saying that this place takes food innovation to a whole new level. I came seeking an ordinary dinner, but little did I know that I was about to embark on a rollercoaster ride for my taste buds. From the moment I walked in, the ambiance exuded a certain charm, as if it were conspiring to lure me into an uncharted gastronomic wonderland.
The menu was an enigmatic masterpiece, full of unexpected surprises that left me breathless. The chef's bold and daring combinations pushed the boundaries of culinary norms, taking me on an unparalleled journey of flavors. Every bite was an explosion of taste sensations, at times so intense that it made my eyes water with sheer delight.
However, it wasn't until the next day that the true magic of this place revealed itself. As I sat on my porcelain throne, contemplating the mysteries of life, I realized that the restaurant had blessed me with an unexpected gift - food poisoning! Yes, you heard that right. The audacity to defy traditional dining experiences and gift me with such a unique bodily reaction is unparalleled.
Who knew that a simple meal could have such transformative power? This unexpected bout of food poisoning became a spiritual awakening, a cleansing of my entire digestive system, and a reset of my culinary expectations. It was as if the universe itself conspired to purge me of my gastronomic ignorance and elevate my dining standards to new heights.
Now, some might argue that food poisoning is a negative experience, but I beg to differ. The way this restaurant catapulted me into a whirlwind of discomfort and existential pondering was truly awe-inspiring. The projectile vomiting and relentless trips to the bathroom were simply nature's way of saying, "Congratulations, you have ascended to a higher level of dining!"
I must commend the staff for their incredible dedication to this unparalleled culinary experience. Their attentive service, although somewhat distracted due to my frequent bathroom breaks, only added to the overall charm of this place. The waitstaff's understanding smiles as they saw me rush to the restroom were a testament to their unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction.
In conclusion, I wholeheartedly recommend this extraordinary restaurant to anyone seeking an adventure for their taste buds and a truly transformative dining experience. Brace yourself for the unexpected, for this establishment goes above and beyond to challenge the boundaries of conventional gastronomy. Just remember to pack your trusty anti-emetics and an extra roll of toilet paper, as you'll...

In the heart of Hong Kong's bustling Central district, where culinary adventures abound, we stumbled upon a hidden gem: Joy Hing Roasted Meat. Bypassing the tourist-laden queue at the renowned Kam's, we walked a mere two minutes to discover this Michelin-starred treasure.
Joy Hing is an experience in itself. Unpretentious and welcoming, it's the kind of place where locals and savvy travelers share stories over steaming plates of succulent roasted goose and glistening barbecue pork. We were fortunate to be joined by two friendly German expats who, upon hearing our story, declared "You're so lucky! You avoided the tourist trap!"
And indeed we did. Joy Hing is the antithesis of a tourist trap. Their focus is on serving up authentic, mouthwatering Cantonese cuisine, not hype or lengthy wait times. We were seated immediately and our order arrived within minutes.
The star of the show was undoubtedly the roasted goose. The skin, glistening like polished mahogany, shattered with the lightest touch, revealing a layer of succulent fat that melted on the tongue. Each bite was an explosion of flavor, perfectly balanced with the sweet and savory notes of the accompanying sauce.
The barbecue pork, too, was a revelation. Tender, juicy, and generously coated in a glaze that caramelized to perfection, it was a symphony of sweetness and smokiness.
Pro tip: ask for the soup to accompany your order and order the Goose leg over rice if available.
Sharing a table with locals added another layer of authenticity to the experience. Their enthusiastic chatter and warm smiles solidified our belief that we had stumbled upon something truly special.
Joy Hing Roasted Meat is a testament to the fact that the best things in life are often found off the beaten path. It's a place where Michelin-starred quality meets genuine local charm, offering a taste of Hong Kong that will leave you dreaming of your next visit.
My advice? Skip the tourist traps and head straight to Joy Hing. You won't be...
Read moreThis is my regular spot for roast meat takeaways. Normally I get take outs but this time I dined there. On the table there were disposable chopsticks and spoons, and they even had tea on the table and paper cups. As well as that, there was a big jug of soy sauce to pour on the roast meat if you felt that it was not salty enough.
Most Chinese roast meals are unhealthy, but I felt that this one was quite healthy, at least they did not pour oily soy sauce or have roast meats tasting like syrup. The accompanying spring and ginger sauce was not salty as well.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★ Roast pork and chicken liver with rice: The rice was not as hot as the takeaway but just right. The roast pork here is slightly different to the roast pork from other places, it it slightly crispy and glazed on the outside. It has a few spots that are charred which seem to be a result of real spit fire roasting and not the electric roasting. The centre of the roast pork is soft and juicy and not overly sweet or salty. As for the chicken liver, it was surprisingly silky in the centre with the occasional crispy bits that have been charred on the outside. The livers also had chicken hearts attached to it which I should of tried. ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★ Chicken feet in abalone sauce: This tasted the same as the pork trotters, however the chicken feet were smaller than expected, and the beancurd sheets ended up the star of the show because they were nice and soft full of abalone sauce flavour because it soaked the sauce. ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★ Ginger and spring onion sauce This is the best ginger and spring onion sauce because it is not salty at all, and you can put lots of it with your rice providing they give it to you. It was nice dining there because you can ask for a side of ginger and spring onion sauce even if you didn't order chicken. Since the ginger and spring onion sauce is not salty, you can always adjust accordingly with the soy sauce. But for me, the saltiness was just...
