My second pirata group encounter! Was invited here for their AYCE 90 mins oyster extravaganza on Wednesdays. We felt really welcomed right as we entered the restaurant. We got seated and was offered drinks right away while we waited for our friend to arrive for our oyster night. The meal started out with their house bread. Wow we were so blown away with this. Their bread was so good (better than Pici’s) and paired with their butter (aioli), it was even better. We had to ask for seconds. Then we moved on to our oysters where each person was given 6 oysters for starters (you can ask for less). We devoured it in minutes. It came with lemon and was dressed with some shallot dressing? Which i thought could have a little more kick or sourness to it. The lemon did help but it just felt one dimensional. After finishing our first batch of oysters, we asked for more Then we told the wait staff that we wanted to move on to appetizers - i felt like they should’ve asked us instead of us asking them. We waited for a bit for the appetizers. We got the: - PAN CON TOMATE WITH JAMON (Coca bread, tomatoes, olive oil, Iberico ham): this was good! The bread was well toasted and the proscuitto pair was amazing - TRUFFLE "HUEVOS ROTOS" (V) (Crispy potatoes, sunny side up eggs, fresh shaved truffle): i thought this was just okay. The potatoes were not crispy but soggy instead? I felt like this dish lacked flavor - OCTOPUS CROQUETAS (Seafood squid ink bechamel mayo): this one was also okay. There wasn’t a flavor that stood out - KING PRAWNS AL AJILLO (king prawn in chilli oil): this tho, the star of the show. The prawn was fresh and cooked perfectly. The saucr was so really good and it didn’t taste oily! For the mains we had the: - BEEF CHEEK (Braised beef cheek, mushrooms): the beef was really cooked well and it was tender. But again i felt like it was lacking a flavor profile it jusy tasted one dimensional - CHARCOAL SEABASS (Chickpea cream, chorizo, sunday vermouth sauce): again same like the beef. It felt like it was lacking flavor or umami. - IBERIAN PLUMA (Chargrilled spanish pork, truffle mash potatoes bell pepper and paprika mojo sauce): this was the best main out of the others. Pork was well cooked and seasoned. The sauce i thought was also a bit one dimensional - could only taste the chilli and thats it. Felt like it could use some sweetnees. Lastly we closed off with: - CHURROS (Chocolate, salted caramel): churros was fried well and wasn’t oily. Loved their salted caramel dipping sauce - CREMA CATALANA (Popping wild berries): kind of like pana cotta. This was good and it wasnt too sweet. Perfect ending to our meal. Overall a good dining experience with our 50+ oysters (90 mins time limit to get your oysters). We were quite happy with the starters but were quite disappointed with the mains.

# Restaurant Review: Optimist, Wan Chai I recently had the pleasure of dining at Optimist, a delightful Spanish restaurant in Wan Chai, and I can confidently say it exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I stepped inside, I was captivated by the warm and inviting atmosphere, which perfectly complements the vibrant flavors of the cuisine. The food was nothing short of spectacular. Each dish was a celebration of Spanish culinary traditions, beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. The menu offered a fantastic variety, making it hard to choose just a few items to sample. Every bite was a delight, showcasing the freshness and quality of the ingredients. What truly made the evening unforgettable, however, was the exceptional service provided by the manager, Riccardo. His attention to detail and genuine care for his guests were evident throughout the night. Riccardo checked in frequently to ensure that everything was to our liking, and his warm hospitality made us feel like cherished guests rather than mere customers. It’s rare to encounter such dedication in the dining experience, and it truly elevated our evening. Overall, I highly recommend Optimist for anyone looking for a memorable dining experience in Hong Kong. The combination of outstanding food, a fantastic atmosphere, and Riccardo's impeccable service guarantees a wonderful night out. Thank you, Riccardo, for your exceptional hospitality—you truly made our visit special!

I recently had the pleasure of dining at The Optimist in Wan Chai, Hong Kong and I must say, it was an awesome experience. The moment I walked in, I was impressed by the awesome ambience and lighting of the restaurant. The rustic decor and cozy lighting created a warm and inviting atmosphere that set the stage for a perfect evening. The friendly waiters added to the overall experience with their impeccable service. They were attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and willing to accommodate special requests. For instance, I requested a Manhattan cocktail, which wasn't on the menu, and they happily whipped one up for me. It's little gestures like these that truly set The Optimist apart from other restaurants. As for the food, I ordered the steak and it was cooked to perfection. The sides that accompanied the steak were also delicious and complemented the main dish perfectly. The seating and dining experience at The Optimist was also top-notch. The restaurant has a lively and energetic vibe that made the evening feel fun and exciting. We celebrated a birthday with friends and had a great time at The Optimist. Overall, I highly recommend The Optimist to anyone looking for a fantastic dining experience in Wan Chai. With its awesome ambience, friendly waiters, perfectly cooked steaks, and fun dining experience, it's truly a gem in Hong Kong's culinary scene. I can't wait to visit again!

I was most impressed by the staff there on this visit. They were professional, courteous, and made us feel valued. We had someone with mobility issues in our party and upon entering the hostess immediately suggested we could take the table on the second floor where the restrooms are, and arranged for an elevator for us from the side of the building. The ambience of the place is ideal for dates and anniversaries. Very relaxed and intimate feel with the lighting on the dimmer side. The staff who oversaw our table was courteous and friendly and answered our questions with grace. I wanted some tapas. We had a decent size group so we could try out a handful of dishes. There was a decent selection of tapas to choose from, but I'd have liked to see more. Food quality was on par with what I had at similar places (though I can't say there was anything in particular that left me craving for another visit soon). I just wish there were more to pick from in the tapas menu. It was an enjoyable experience. I'd come back when I want to feel cozy and to share an intimate yet relaxing dinner with that special someone.

Lunch at the Optimist with the special dishes for the restaurant (Restaurant Week). Booked for 2 persons but they can only provide bar / high table seats on 2/F, despite they called us 30 minutes before and reminded us their stringent requirements on arrival and duration of the meal and the restaurant was not full till we finished. Ordered the duck leg confit and slow cooked beef cheek. Unfortunately the duck leg appeared to be just boiled and then lightly pan fried, not to mention the absence of any taste of the sealed / crisp of the skin nor the smell of any duck fat. The beef came with rice, there are 3 small and thin slices of beef cheek, which are soft, rich and tasty. The rice is in a quite big portion, a bit warm (if not cold) mixed with sauce which gave it a very very wet look / feel. Looks like the chef has forgotten to give seasoning, even salt that we have / can finish only less than half. We also ordered the churros as the dessert, quite crispy and serve with 2 sauces, but very oily. It took us less than an hour to finish, far far away from a fine lunch!

My friend and i are probably not really hungry so we decided to have a simple dinner tonight the place is located at 239 hennessy road the restaurant looks old model the ambience is good, lights are so dim if you have poor eyesight must bring eye glasses otherwise you probably can't clearly see the menu you should turn the lights on of your phone for your convenience and since it's friday a bit busy so expect the noisy environment the washroom is unhealthy condition thanks for the friendly staffs other staffs have a poor memory they forgot to put a napkin pr cloth on the table and a cream cheese for our bread. THE FOOD MAIN MENU for my choice *SPANISH TURBOT FISH* . Marinera style prawn, squid with tomato sauce, garlic and onion. Great taste not salty and sour. *MY SALAD* . SPINACH SALAD . Baby leaves, apple puree, sundried grapes & nuts. Healthy one *DESSERT* . FLAN . Egg flan, lemon cream, almond crunch Eventhough you are on diet you can try this one it's not so sweet as you expect. Anyway 10stars for the food. See yah til next time! Recomended.
