If you're searching for the pinnacle of traditional Cantonese-style roasted meats, look no further than Kwan Yu Roasted Meat (吾御燒味). This humble yet exceptional shop is a hidden gem that could easily rival some of the city's most prestigious restaurants.
The char siu (BBQ pork) is perfectly caramelised, tender, and rich in flavour — a textbook example of how it should be done. The suckling pig is nothing short of spectacular: crisp, aromatic skin and succulent meat, executed with precision and pride. Truly among the finest in Hong Kong.
Beyond the food, the staff are warm, genuine, and welcoming, creating an atmosphere that is both efficient and personable — a rare combination.
What makes this place even more impressive is the very reasonable pricing, especially considering the top-tier quality of the meats and the consistency of preparation.
A must-try. If Michelin stars could be awarded to local gems like this, Kwan Yu Roasted Meat would undoubtedly earn...

This is the WORST restaurant I have been to in Hong Kong. The pushy waitress made us order full-sizes of all the roast meats by saying the mixed plates are too small. We tried to order the smaller plates but she insisted that we take the full sizes. We ended up with too much food that we couldn’t finish. I dislike wasting food, but we just couldn’t finish everything.
Wouldn’t have minded if the food was actually good, but the pigeon and roast duck was stale and mushy when we ate it. The suckling pig and roast pork were too fatty, and the skins were rubbery and chewy instead of crispy.

Read moreI am a char siu advocate that will go far to find the best. Kwan Yu Roasted Meats was recommended to me. I got the char siu and roast pork rice, this was simple easy and delicious. Though not the best char siu I've had, it's definetly not a bad idea if you want to grab a box back to eat. The char siu was sweet with some succulence, the roast pork had a crispy skin which was food an appropriate layer of fat to meat ratio. Overall a simple and easy meal that I gobbled up quite fast, is go here another time to give a more detailed review. But until next time, more char...
