There is a small Japanese restaurant in a corner of Tin Hau. The seating is limited, I grab the last table when I arrived around 12 pm on the weekend. Fortunately, the food was served quickly, so I finished my meal promptly.
Most of the donburi bowls cost $100 or less, even their signature pork cutlet donburi is priced at $88! The dinner menu is slightly more expensive, adding an extra $10, which is still affordable.
The selling point of the pork cutlet donburi is that the pork cutlet with eggs, and rice are served separately, allowing you to slide those onto the rice yourself. The portion is generous, and the rice, pork cutlet, and egg all taste good. The egg is smooth and flavorful, and the pork cutlet is crispy without being greasy. The meat is lean but moist, tender, and juicy.
The other chicken donburi is equally excellent. The egg is even more creamy and smooth than the pork cutlet, and the chicken is tender without any frozen taste.
I also tried the additional sesame chicken wings for $28/2. They were fried to perfection, crispy and fragrant, with tender and juicy meat, although a bit on...
Read moreHonestly, zero stars. Got there, I was the only new customer (one couple already eating), waiter helped me with the order, told him what im looking for (fried chicken with rice type of bowl), made it within 5 minutes and … it wasn’t fried chicken. Waiter apologized and told him no stress, i’ll pay for it, but let’s find a dish with fried chicken. He showed me something else, found a picture online and showed it to me to be sure. At that time, two big families showed up. I waited 30 MINUTES and no food (even though i followed up), in fact they prioritized 4 other plates for these families and still not for me (i was alone). How does that make sense logistically? And especially if you want to make up to the customer for the earlier mistake. I paid and left (because i feel bad for the ingredients spent). Not a place for...
Read moreSpecially came here for the tomahawk pork chop donburi on a Friday night. The queue wasn’t as long as expected. The restaurant is very compact. We sat at the counter where they pick up the food to serve, they kept asking us to scoot in but there was no room to move closer to the table.
The tomahawk donburi was very picture worthy, although the last couple of bites were overly salty. The sukiyaki was very standard, if I come again I would order the iberico pork cutlet and egg rice instead.
When we were about to finish, the waitress urged us to return the table, however we have only been eating for less than an hour. They never mentioned there was a time limit. Moreover there was a couple who came before us but they didn’t ask them to leave. I would come back for their food if they could improve their...
