Ovo Cafe is a vegetarian restaurant with two branches including Sheung Wan and this branch in Wan Cha at the historic Wan Chai Market building at the intersection of Queen's Road East and Wan Chai Road. Opening hours are 11.30am to 10pm daily.
We dined here for lunch recently and really liked the meal served up as well as the ambience and decor of Ovo Cafe. The indoor seating area is set in the Ovo Garden which is basically a flower and plant shop. As such, there are plants everywhere, creating a forest like dining area.
You order at the counter which is in front of a small kitchen and food preparation area. Menu is relatively small list of international dishes, allowing them to concentrate on what they do well.
During our meal, we very much enjoyed their Pesto Awakening (HK$95) which is a nicely prepared penne with freshly made pesto, pine nuts and just enough sun-dried tomato. This was a very good pasta dish.
We also tried their Tom Yummy (H$95) which was absolutely delicious. This is a sliced wheat noodle served with a bit of mushroom and tofu slices, mixed with an excellent coconut based Thai Tom Yum sauce that was a bit spicy and highly flavourful. Dish is topped with fresh arugula and saffron. We both really loved this dish and want to return to reorder soon.
For desert we tried the cheesecake (HK$38) offered at the counter. Believe this was a tofu cheesecake, not too sweet with good flavour. Texture was soft an smooth. Not a stellar desert but a good way to finish our meal.
Overall, we very much liked our recent meal at Ovo Cafe in Wan Chai. Mains are fair sized, priced very reasonably for Hong Kong and tasted great. This is a strong showing for a vegetarian meal and a nice dining environment, something we look forward to...
Read moreOVO Cafe is one of the many cafes and coffee shops I bookmarked in Wan Chai; it is also the closest one to our hotel. I initially bookmarked this cafe because the interior looks absolutely beautiful, it is inside a flower shop, and it is a vegan cafe! Decided to walk over when it opens at 12pm today (Boxing Day), and got a seat right away. You have to scan your vaccination pass (aka blue code) upon arrival, and you order via QR code at the table (physical menu is also available upon request). It is very spacious inside with high ceiling, beautiful floral and green decors, and very friendly staff.
We ordered the Cheese Fondue Lunch Set for 2, and it comes with a fruit x greens salad, and 2 drinks (you can order the free drinks or add a bit of money and get other drink items for this lunch set).
The cheese fondue is obviously vegan, and because it is vegan cheese, it does get a bit clumpy, so be sure to stir, stir, stir to get the cheese more smooth before dipping. The set comes with 3 mini trays of food for dipping: baby corn, cherry tomato, broccoli, mushroom, potato wedge, tofu dumpstick, and toasted bread.
For the drinks, we had a rose theme going on lol. I ordered the Rock Salt Rose Latte (you can select decaffeinated and the type of milk), and my partner got a pot of the Rose & Osmanthus Tea.
It was a lovely lunch :) I can't wait to come back again to try the...
Read moreLovely green space with lots of indoor plants even if you were in the middle of concrete jungle with skyscraper around you. The lunch hour is pretty packed so definitely come early. No reservations allowed. Come before 1pm definitely. At 12pm its empty. There are 4 set lunch, and usually some kind of mock meat with rice, pasta/noodles with side salad. With a complimentary choice of soup or drink. Food is average, I'm on a foodie side, and I can cook, so I'm a bit more picky when it comes to judging food. I would say for the convenience, location and price (around HkD68 to HKD78 for lunch) that's decent. If there are healthier choice with less refined carbs and avoid using soy gluten products, I would go there instead. Staff was polite and helpful, crowd tends to be local professionals. Pros: environment, high ceiling and reasonable price. Cons: Food choice and lack mock meat/ processed...
