Butterfly on LKF gave me much more than I paid for!
Located right in the heart of Lan Lwai Fong, Butterfly gives you an enviable location from which to enjoy a rest after a crawl around the liveliest bar district in Central Hong Kong. With the Metro station only a 3 minute walk away from the hotel entrance and taxis constantly plying the street, I must say that the location is convenience at its best.
Once you find the hotel's entrance discreetly located on D'Aguilar Street, you will be welcomed by automatic doors into this wonder of architecture. Typical of Hong Kong, every room, corridor and space is pint sized. However, Butterfly has made use of mirrors to create the illusion of space and wonder.
At the lobby on 8th floor, I was welcomed by Eric Cheng at the reception. I can't write about Butterfly and not write about Eric. He was courteous, professional to a fault and helpful. In fact on the day I checked out, he helped me with my luggage, walked me down the street, hailed a taxi and explained to the Cantonese speaking driver where I needed to go. Every hotel needs an Eric.
Other than my room key, I was also handed: a free rentals list from which I rented a diffuser and lavender oil, 2 welcome drinks vouchers for Hard Rock Cafe, and a card with the hotel's address as well as the addresses of key locations in Hong Kong. Anyone visiting HK knows how important it is to have these addresses written down in Chinese.
The room surpassed my expectations: from the clever use of space, the lighting for different effects, the smart glass walls on the bathroom and toilet walls to provide privacy, the pristine bed linen and room, the little touches like interesting headboards, a safe, et cetera, to the quirky art on the walls along the corridors outside the rooms, I was floored by how much I was getting for so little.
Though the hotel doesn't have a restaurant, its location allows you enviable access to such a wide variety of eateries on LKF. From more pricey western restaurants to better priced Chinese/ Thai/ Cantonese other Eastern cuisines, there is a restaurant for everyone within a stone's throw of the hotel.
Downstairs, I walked into Tipsy Bar where I met Paul, the bartender. Paul is the friendliest, most knowledgeable person on all matters HK nightlife. Since I was the first client at the bar, he kept me entertained and answered my endless questions. He helped me cart my luggage to safety as I enjoyed a sun downer. At Tipsy, you also need to meet Elvis, the manager. He is quite a spectacle to behold- like Elvis Presley reborn. Again, he was humorous, welcoming and quite entertaining. Did I mention that you get 10% off at Tipsy if you're staying at Butterfly? You just need to show them the key card.
During the night, I returned to find that the toilet wasn't working. The staff member on duty came up to the room, tried to fix it but failed. So, I was upgraded to a new room at 2 in the morning at no extra cost.
Perhaps the only let down for them was that the free drinks voucher from Hard Rock Cafe was not accepted by Hard Rock. They said that the vouchers were only for specific drinks. Perhaps that needs to made clear to guests. Also, due to the busy nature of a typical central business district, traffic tends to be heavy during rush hour, so it may be a good idea to plan travel arrangements accordingly. Finally, smokers are advised that the entire hotel is a non smoking one.
Overall, Butterfly has just won over a lifetime client for any time I visit...
Read moreWhere to start? I've picked this as we only had 1 1/2 days, and it's convenient to get to the airport. Our room was on the 15th floor. When we came back from dinner, we realised we are above some vars which are open till 6am and you can hear it in the rooms, despite the windows being closed. The bed is soooo uncomfortable! When you go to the toilet, it's inevitable to wake the person up next to you because it's all 1 big room, so the lights by the sink will have to go on. The toilet and shower are just behind a milky glass, too, no real privacy. When we asked if we could be moved, we were changed to the 27th floor for our second and last night, and we still heard the party downstairs. Both rooms leaked from the shower and were not cleaned properly. We have videos where we just drag a towel along the shower, and it's black!!
Also, when we were moved, we were given a new key, obviously which didn't work, so I went to the reception 3!!! times to get the key activated until I just asked the manager to open it with his! All this with my boyfriend waiting outside the room, with all our luggage. Also, once settled (early alarm to catch our flight) into bed and trying to get some sleep, all the lights just went on, and some weird sound came on. So we called reception who came up and just said "oh that's odd, hopefully it won't happen again" in that moment it did, the manager pressed some buttons and said, "let's see if this works"
I've asked for some compensation or refund since we had little sleep and a terrible experience and they just assured me that they looked into the issues and have fixed everything and I will get a 20% discount of my next stay.... think carefully if you want...
Read moreI stayed here recently on a stopover on the way to Europe. Initially, I found the hotel a little difficult to find once I disembarked the AirPort Express despite using google maps. The map is confusing as there are walkways as well as roads however once I understood this and I got my bearings it was relatively easy. ||The hotel is on D’Aguilar Street which is up a hill so be aware if you are on foot and have luggage. It will be a breeze returning to the airport though!||The room was comfortable, the bed was also comfortable and has everything you need. There is a water machine that you can use for drinking however once suggestion would be to provide a container that is more than 200ml, the amount the machine dispenses. Otherwise you have to stand by the machine and put two different mugs/glasses under to catch water otherwise it ends up on the bench top. ||It is great that you can turn the AC on and off! ||I was a solo traveller so the room was perfect however not sure how two people would go. Also, the shower and toilet are within the room space and even though they have smart glass which can be transparent as well as opaque it means you need to know your companion very well.||Overall, a great hotel I have no problem recommending and I would definitely...
