This is not Wolfgang’s Spago from USA, that’s the first thing to know, so don’t be confused. Walked around the area looking for a descent meal, the menu was quite varied and happy hour was still on so took a chance on Hong Kong’s Spago.
The service was very friendly. Started off with a Moscow Mule, which was just ok tasting but had a nice mint leaf which I like, a good deal at 45HKD. Ordered the calamari and truffle mushroom bruschetta appetizers. Both were good but not great. The calamari tasted good and weren’t rubbery but had a strong fishy smell, it was a bit too crispy and definitely needed the accompanying sauce. The bruschetta tasted quite delicious, just the right amount of truffle, but the bread was a bit soggy after only a couple minutes of sitting. The appetizers came out pretty quick, but then waited 45 minutes for our main dishes, and it wasn’t that busy. I had the lamb shank which was actually worth the wait, tender with a delicious sauce, just slightly over cooked, but satisfying, and the mashed potatoes were perfect. My colleague ordered the seafood fettuccine and left half over, did not care for it and started to feel sick in the stomach. It was supposed to have a creamy sauce but looked very dry to me with barely a light coating of sauce.
Lastly, we sat outside as it was a beautiful night, however 2 put-offs to be aware of, most people sitting outside were smoking, and the 2 people sitting next to us were both smoking cigars during our meal which was quite annoying, and furthermore they have portable air conditioners to cool the patio down which is nice, but they were blowing excessively too much and made the comfortable outside patio into a cool breezy experience on a night that had no wind, and a temperature of a perfect 23 degrees, didn’t really need AC blowing away. Overall just an ok experience, been here twice, first and last. If you want good Italian in a nice atmosphere go to Divino...
Read moreNew doggie friendly restaurant in Wan Chai, part of the Al Denté group. Reason we went for the first time was that it has an outdoor yet covered area which is perfect place to dine with my doggie. That night we had oysters and Chicken Parmesan. Both dishes were delicious.
After 2 weeks, we went there again tonight. The waitress was very helpful. First, she informed us that there was another doggie at our next table and wonder if it was ok for us. Then she explained about their way of cooking porchetta when we order it. I asked her for pasta recommendation and I’m glad we ordered the lobster fettuccine she recommended. There was a lot of lobster and perfect balance of flavor! As for the porchetta, although it was not crispy like other resto which the waitress already explained to us, the skin still little crispy and the meat was tender.
Overall, food is delicious. Love how it’s simple and unpretentious! Price is reasonable. Also happy hour 3-8pm if I remember correctly. Staff all friendly and helpful. We will...
Read moreWe ordered the 3-course lunch which is very reasonably priced. It included a soup/salad (great volume compared to the soup/salad offered in other restaurants), a main course ranging from pasta to steak to roasted chicken, and a dessert/drink. Everything was delicious and served once cooked. The dessert is unexpectedly good and was as good as those served in a dessert place. It was such a joy to eat in a nicely decorated restaurant and be served by friendly staff. Will definitely go...
