YA:JANG — Restaurant in Hong Kong

This restaurant has become the hottest spot in town. We made a reservation online but when we arrived they said they only take walk-ins now as they have overwhelming reservations. We had to wait for 35 minutes on a Saturday night which was a bit of a let down.

One of the main draws is the stunning Korean models, all over 183 cm tall, who serve as waiters. Their presence adds an intriguing element to the dining experience, making it a popular destination for those looking to enjoy a visually striking environment.

The menu features a variety of dishes, the aged pork, which is precooked and then reheated using a torch right in front of you. Another dish worth mentioning is the kimchi tofu jjigae. While I liked it and found it flavorful and satisfying, I found myself wishing for softer tofu, as it would have added a nice creaminess to the dish.

The banchan, or side dishes, are excellent and complement the main courses beautifully. However, one notable aspect of the restaurant is its typical loud atmosphere, which can make conversation challenging. Recently the restaurant has received a lot of mixed reviews so I decided to try it for myself and see. I ordered their signature set for $688 which includes pork belly, pork shoulder, pollack roe pork belly, steamed egg and one side of your choice.

The meat was good! the shoulder was tender and juicy, and the pollack roe took me by surprise as it had a lot of flavour and didn’t taste too fishy. The steamed egg tasted just okay and had a bit of a smoky flavour. It also looked a little unappetizing due to the greenish/ smoky color on top, it’s the only dish I wouldn’t want to eat again as i didn’t finish it… As for the side of my choice, I picked the soybean soup (된장찌개), I really liked it as the flavour was strong and not watery, and there was a good amount of tofu and pork. Would def order the soup and pork again! The servers were friendly, and literally all the customers couldn’t stop talking about their looks. *I do hope they can manage the restaurant a little better though as they did reservations on and off a few times now which is confusing and...

We were really excited to find a new Korea barbecue spot in our neighbourhood and decided to check it out. The interior is actually quite cute and resembles an alleyway street food vibe. The service was okay. Food was quite delayed and they gave us beverages on the house as an apology. The food itself, however, was a huge let-down. The 'barbecue' itself comes to the table cooked, so I felt that the part of the experience of cooking, smelling, and hearing the sizzling was taken away.
