Visited in October 2024. Hong Kong 🇭🇰

We were on the hunt for a good Japanese restaurant and were delighted to discover Izakaya Ganpachi. What's more, it boasts stunning views of the harbour. The restaurant itself is bright, well-appointed and features an open kitchen, allowing you to peek behind the culinary curtain.

Food:

The restaurant offers an extensive à la carte menu as well as a selection of set menus. We opted for the set menu, particularly enticed by their fantastic “Chef’s Recommendations” offer – two for the price of one. The set comprised a starter, a portion of sashimi, abalone, wagyu beef, and several nigiri. All the dishes we sampled were delicious, boasting exceptionally fresh produce. I particularly enjoyed the tomato and strawberry salad, an unusual but delightful pairing. The salad was light, refreshing, and the perfect way to begin our meal. The sashimi was unbelievably fresh, with the scallop being a standout. The wagyu beef course was also excellent. The only slight drawback was the presence of some gristle in the meat, which made it a little chewy, although I imagine this might depend on the cut. However, the flavour was still excellent. The tempura starter was expertly prepared – light, airy, and non-greasy, perfectly highlighting the flavour of the ingredients. My personal favourite was the sweet Japanese potato. The nigiri was the least impressive aspect, perhaps a little too much rice for my liking. However, for the price and quality of the set menu, the deal was phenomenal, exceeding our expectations. Incidentally, the offer also applies to certain varieties of sake.

Service:

Service was outstanding. The waiter was incredibly attentive and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Drinks were always refilled promptly and the pacing of the courses was impeccable, ensuring we never felt rushed.

Conclusion:

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at this restaurant. The views were breathtaking, especially with the evening panorama of Hong Kong. We highly recommend this restaurant. The food was fresh, the menu carefully considered, and the special offer was exceptional value, far surpassing our...

Made reservation on Open Rice a week earlier for dinner on 25 Dec to celebrate Christmas with family who is in town. Specifically requested for a table by the window and to call me if it cannot be arranged. Tried to call after booking on the app to make sure that there’s a table by the window but no one ever picks up call. Since I received booking confirmation by email and no one called I thought it should be safe since they mostly take reservations online. Unexpectedly I received a WhatsApp msg around noon on 25th itself asking me to reconfirm my booking without mentioning about window table so I asked if my booking is by the window and was told that it’s not due to too many bookings. The response from the restaurant was very slow throughout and nil response received when I asked why no one bothered to call me the past 5 days after receiving and confirming my booking if it’s not available? I have been here before and as the food is not remarkable and it’s overpriced , we came here purely for the view and ambience. If no table by the window we’d rather spend our money elsewhere hence cancelled our booking. Wasted our time and had to last minute arrange dinner at another venue. Very very unprofessional...

Gonpachi’s TST location offers a beautiful scenic view of the harbour while you dine. Been here multiple times and food here has always been satisfactory, it has never disappointed us. The set lunch’s salad isn’t the greatest, but not bad either. Their sushi and sashimi are always fresh and tasty. I’m a big fan of their curry katsu. It is crispy enough and well cooked. Their curry is just right, too spicy but you still feel a bit of kick to it. In terms of service it’s not bad, but not that great either. My friend is allergic to shellfish and we told the waiter to not include any in his meal, and they said okay. When it arrived there were two nigiri sushi with shellfish on top. We had to call another staff over and point at the shellfish to have it taken it back. Personally in my experience I think the service at Gonpachi’s Lee Garden II...

We made a last minute reservation for 12:30pm and did not managed to secure the windows seats, nonetheless we could see the view for the day! And it was bright and beautiful! (pity the blinds were not rolled up) We ordered the premium set lunches (assorted char grill items & Australian saggy sirloin steak) which was buy one get one free and a couple of small a la carte items to try. The food is good, as there were many options! I am allergy to prawns so I managed to get the scallop tempura which was in my opinion, a great substitute! There are a lot of different promotions to try, we will definitely come back for their omakase which is facing the Kowloon side rather than the hk island. Rosa the supervisor was a star and we loved the service and her excellence hospitality! We cannot wait to go back to Gonpachi!
