This was the worst “hotel” I have ever had the disprivilege of booking (if you can even call this a “hotel” at all). I chose to ignore all the bad reviews of this accommodation as I thought people were probably exaggerating — as with most other hotels. Please understand that I consider myself an extremely fuss-free and simple to please traveller, and STILL I was taken aback at how incredibly bad this place was. I suggest you learn from my mistakes, heed my advice, and fork out that little bit of extra cash for a marginally better place — I promise that small investment will pay dividends.
I'm going to list everything wrong about this place that I can remember. I urge you to take a read and decide for yourself whether you still want to save that few dollars.
First impression of moving into our room was that the room was filthy in every corner you could possibly look, and they were flies and other kinds of insects everywhere. Everything from the furniture, to the walls, air conditioning, shower cubicle, flooring was extremely old and dated. We arrived late at the hotel on the first night due to a late flight and agreed to sleep in for our first morning so that we would be well rested. Unfortunately, metacity decided to conduct aircon replacement in the room RIGHT NEXT DOOR, starting at 9AM sharp. The drilling, smashing, and screaming in canto helped us to snap out of dreamland despite being so tired from the previous day. After going down to talk to the receptionist, I learnt that the whole hotel was construction free, except that ONE ROOM RIGHT BESIDE OURS. Can anyone explain why a “hotel” would place one of their only guests beside the only room where they are tearing the walls down at 9AM? I expressed my displeasure at the construction, and let the receptionist know that we were trying to sleep in due to our long night. He had the nerve to respond: “At this hour…?” while staring me dead in the eye with a judgemental look. I thought the whole point of hotels were to sleep... why does it matter to you if I want to sleep in or not? Mind you, it was literally 9 in the morning, not 4PM. After some back and forth, this guy finally agreed to give us a new room, and we had to pack up everything we just unpacked to move to a room upstairs which was even smaller. More about the room(s) — there were plenty of yellow/orange/brown stains and large holes on the bedsheets and towels. Who knows how they were made 🤷 The wifi does not work at all, 90% of the time. You get full bars on your phone, but the network speed is less than 1mb/s and everything is unusable. Good luck with texting your family! The tap in the sink was literally broken and the tap was completely unhinged. Had to hold down the tap with one hand while struggling to turn on the water every time. The shower (and tap) temperature was totally haywire and couldn’t be adjusted properly. Every time we wanted to take a shower, we had to wait over 5 minutes for the water to stop boiling us alive. Also, the shower head had no proper holder and could not stay in a remotely ideal location. The hand soap dispenser had no soap. How hard is it to for the hotel staff to refill the soap before the next occupants arrive? I can think of about 5 things I would do first if I were the staff member cleaning up the room and this is about 3rd on the list after changing the towels and bedsheets. The dead bolt lock was literally useless as it was broken off and unattached from the door frame. Hopefully no one tries to barge into your room when you are sleeping!
On the last day when we were checking out, we saw them moving in a shiny new “metacity MK” fancy mirror display to hang up somewhere in their lobby. Good to know that instead of investing in fixing the 1001 wrong things about their rooms, they are buying cheap tacky furniture to bling up their dirty old lobby.
If you’re ever in Hong Kong, don’t even bother with giving this place a chance. Trust me — it was so bad that I dedicated almost 30 minutes of my life writing this review for the benefit...
Read moreGreat expereince. The staff are friendly and even with the limited English they communicate well and are helpful and accommodating. You aren't paying high exorbitant prices so don't have the highest expectations.
The single room I got was decently clean and everything worked. I am a short person so it didn't affect me. For taller wider ppl they might struggle abit with the size. Best to phone ahead and inquire
The location is in a less noisier area but also not far from the main street about 5 streets over. And a few streets away from Langham or mongkok station which is great for travel. If walking along canton road you can find interesting things during the day and night
Overall I enjoyed the experience and hotel and note I was able to stay in two rooms due to me travelling to another destination and coming back. And both rooms were about the same and in quality and were corner rooms on different floors
I would definitely stay again and recommend this to others with the...
Read moreAbsolute nightmare and truly disgusting... Never before in my entire 53 years of life have I had the horror of staying in such filth... The photos on the Web ate not what you get... Walls were damaged, nasty black marks on them, torn and filthy... The paint work and repairs look like terrible... Best parts are the smoke detector in the room is covered in a plastic packet... The aircons that are over the beds have water stains from leaking... Bathroom door is loose, shower is mouldy and rusted, no toilet paper and planks open above the toilet... I found their closet for your clothes beyond laughable... It's the size of a large suitcase and has 2 hangers only... Oh and no place to pack anything anywhere... Genuinely this place is beyond disgusting... Do not fall for the lies on their page and not their pictures... Thankfully Booking.com had sorted out a full refund for me... Stay away from...
