ad Save this Hong Kong food tour 🥟 I’m British Chinese and this is everything I ate, ordered and loved in Hong Kong. Today, we’re doing a food tour around the districts of Mong Kok and Sham Sui Po with Virginia from @ilikefishballs. We’re starting with Cantonese roast meats from Wing Hap Lung 永合隆飯店. It’s one of the last restaurants in Hong Kong that insists on using charcoal to prepare the meats for crispy skin, smokey flavours and juicy meat. The shifu very kindly let us go behind-the-scenes to see him work his magic.

Now, it’s time for noodles and dumplings from Good Hope Noodle 好旺角麵家, the noodles are springy, cooked perfectly and it’s made freshly made each day onsite. I slurped up a bowl of wonton noodles, munched on the dumplings with Chinese chives but don’t sleep on their silky smooth congee either.

If you’re looking for old school dim sum, you can get it from London restaurant 倫敦大酒樓, an institution famed for their dim sum trolleys. Good thing I’m travelling with a bunch of foodies because we still found room to order dumplings, bao to steamed milk in coconut.

Hope you’re not full yet because there’s still more. Time for a pineapple bun with butter 菠蘿油 from Kam Wah Cafe (金華冰廳) enjoyed with a Hong Kong style milk tea. There’s always room for dessert – HEA「迆」雪糕專門店 for vegan ice cream. I went for the tofu flavour with a sour plum ice lolly on top.

What a day. See you in the next Hong Kong video! @discoverhongkong #discoverhongkong #hellohongkong #hongkong #dimsum #chinesefood #chinese #cantonese #cantonesefood #hongkongfood #dimsum #dumplings #hongkongeats #hongkongstreetfood #cantonesecuisine #hongkongrestaurants #eseaeats #britishchinese #chinesecuisine #hkfoodies #asian #britishbornchinese #hkfoodblogger #hongkongtours #hongkongfoodie #hkfood #hongkongtrip #hongkongfoodblogger #hkrestaurant #香港美食 #hkfoodblog

Most bizarre experience. Took the elevator up to the 4th floor to get sent back down to the 3rd. Walked in and no one is there to great you but there are many people walking around. It’s a total chaotic scene. I notice people walking around carrying trays of food and thought “Wow, lots of people work here.” After getting seated for our party of 10+ I noticed no carts being pushed around. Hm…so curious…my aunt asks if there is a menu or paper to order dim sum from and the worker says oh it’s over there, go get it yourself! Hahaha! Then all of a sudden I get it! People walking around with trays are customers going to a food station along with your “ticket” and queuing up to pick up dim sum! Like a buffet style system but you point and they put it onto your tray. Honestly it was a strange experience and no different from getting dim sum from a grab and go place and kicking it in a park to eat it. The only thing they provided us with is plates, utensils, cups and tea. As for the food?… very bland and nothing spectacular. Was a pretty disappointing dim sum dining, we won’t be going back. I’m sure the locals love it as a hang out but I wish the food were better. As you can see from my photo our lazy Susan was pretty full of the standard dim sum and nothing was tasty. We got out of there after spending $750HKD and decided to grab a snack elsewhere. Boo…

This is where you can get decent Chinese food at reasonable prices. Especially given the location, I really recommend you give this place a chance. Overall, pros were taste, quality and the value. Talking to the staff there, they boast their pride in their dimsum, that is made in their internal kitchen just inside. Their chefs are apparently experts and old timers in their trade. Our waiter was unabashed when citing the inferior quality of other competing establishments which would make theirs elsewhere and just reheat in their kitchens. Trying their food, it's hard to deny that either. When it comes to food, choices are plentiful. Their dimsum is generally better than average for quality than other places. In particular, I do recommend that if given the chance, try out their coconut dessert (picture included). This is one of their specialties. Service on food just matches any other Chinese restaurant, (practically non-existent) but it's simply just culture to chock up to. I would give 5 stars on experience because I hardly really see push carts around much anymore so it was a pleasant surprise. Overall: 4 / 5 Service : 3 / 5 Food taste: 4.5 / 5 Food quality: 4.5 / 5 Experience: 5 / 5 Value / price: 4 / 5

This is the infamous authentic Dim Sum restaurant with a very old school ordering method. You need to get to the right floor by elevator - but you should see a sign out the front.

There’s no carts trolleying dim sum around and no one will come up to take your order.

Instead, you walk up to a counter, grab a tray and ask for whatever you’d like. Make sure you go with someone you can speak Cantonese, otherwise it will be a struggle as you compete against other customers.

The dim sum here are so fresh, tasty and everything tastes so delicious. They have such a large range of - some dishes I’ve never even seen before! Dishes like the White Radish Cake is made as you order them! Sizzling fresh - all made at the same counter.

The staff are wonderful and you can tell they enjoy what they are doing. Thank you for the very unique experience and for not...
