We recently dined at Nobu at the Regent Hotel in Hong Kong and ordered the Omakase set menu at around HK$1500 including service charge. I am disappointed to report that our experience was rather underwhelming. The food, while not terrible, was distinctly average. The soup and sauces were excessively salty. The sushi, which one would expect to be a standout dish failed to leave a lasting impression. The dessert which was an overcooked chocolate fondant was on the dry side and took about 20 minutes to arrive. The cooked dishes were just standard which you can find much better in other restaurants.
One of the main selling points of Nobu is clearly the view. When we arrived around 7.30pm there were numerous unoccupied tables closer to the windows. The hostess informed us that these tables were reserved and we were not allowed to choose those tables, but when we left around 9.15pm, they were still unoccupied!!!! This practice, although perhaps catering to VIP or hotel guests, seemed unnecessary and unfair, especially considering the current economic climate where Hong Kong businesses are struggling. It would have been more considerate to seat guests where they actually wanted to be seated, particularly when the quality of the food did not justify such exclusivity.
I must admit that experiences like these make me question the long-term survival of restaurants that prioritize superficial factors over the quality of their cuisine. If you're looking for amazing Japanese food, I would recommend exploring other options such as Sushi Hanami or Enishi, both of which I gave five-star reviews. These establishments offer superior culinary delights without the need to pay for a view that may not even be fully enjoyed due to such seating restrictions or practices which may have been acceptable pre-pandemic but now, I’m sorry but that is just not acceptable, you just wont survive for long with these practices. All in all, our visit to Nobu left us with a poor impression and having just returned from a glorious stay at the Aman in Luang Prabang where service was just impeccable… the service at Nobu requires much attention and...

THE MIX. There were five of us. We were sat next to the window facing the great views over the harbour. A bit on the bright side during Sunday afternoon so lowering some blinds would help. Food was good, but just as expected. Good portions (varieties) to fill us up. I’ll let the attached photos speak for themselves. The setting and deco looks odd. Round tables are not common in Japanese cuisine. When we were seated, the table was plain bare - no utensils, plate, glass when we sat down. Felt like we sat in between someone setting up a table in a rush dim sum restaurant – in a supposedly Japanese restaurant lacking details.
THE BAD. What was upsetting was, the afternoon set was supposed to come with drinks. We were chatting a bit and became thirsty. Noticing our drinks somehow took an extended amount of time to arrive and there was nothing on our table, so we’ve asked the waitress can we have some water please. Waitress asked us whether we wanted sparkling and we promptly said no, just regular water. She then brought us bottled Fiji water inside a metallic container, then we realize we are going to get charge an unknown amount for it (approx. HKD$120 for a 1L). The price was not written in their menu and the waitress also failed to inform us of the charge. My complaint in form of a question is, a restaurant that charges 300+/person seriously can’t even afford to give out some very basic water to a customer like any restaurant would? No matter how good that afternoon tea was, it left us with a sour taste and a terrible impression. I don’t care what the norm in HK is, it just shows poor hospitality, poor taste, poor gesture and they would like their customers to just suck it up.
The food was good; but NOBU has lost all their points to their greediness and cheapness – that’s all I can remember whenever someone asked me about...

Indulge in an exquisite Japanese Peruvian food nestled in the five star hotel with astonishing Victoria Harbour view.
From the refreshing, uplifting taste of the sashimi santen mori to the must try crispy rice minced tuna, every bite is a delight. We couldn’t resist to upgrade our sushi selections to the premium version and it’s worth it! The spinach is not just an ordinary spinach. It’s a burst of freshness with unique flavours from the dry miso.
The inawa soba with tempura is so smooth and silky, the broth is so clean and comforting. The tempura is fried to perfection.
For dessert, don’t miss the bento box which is a chocolate lava cake with green tea ice cream. The Nobu cheesecake is a new sensation to us. It’s mind blowing! Refreshing mango, with sesame paste in the middle and green curry ice cream! Yes, you read that right! It’s green curry and it’s amazing!
We also add on some uni avocado tacos. It’s so creamy and it’s a must try!
They are now available in Dining City so make sure to check it out before it’s too late!
A huge shoutout to Nobu’s team for the excellent service. Special thanks to Ceci for her thoughtful recommendation and making sure that we enjoyed the night. To Nelly who patiently explaining the dishes and how to enjoy them. The night would not be perfect without drinks. We also would like to thank Yuya-san for the sake pairing recommendations and the...
