TLDR: Discrimination. They humiliated us and treated us badly because they think we were ordering a few items only. They weren't planning on giving us our orders on time. I and my family decided to eat there after a long travel from Macau since the place and photos of the food were enticing and we were planning to get a quick meal before going back to our place.
There were 12 of us: 6 adults, 4 seniors, 2 kids. We ordered 2 each of the 3 menu items, since the menu items based on our observation were good for sharing and the seniors and kids weren't eating much. I ordered "foreigner style" because they don't understand english very well. I pointed on the picture and say 2 (with hand sign) and 11 cups of rice and a beer. We waited for almost 1 hour and the lady in charge went to us telling us our order is taking long and that the kitchen was busy, it will take another 1 hour, then forced us to get another 2 serve of a menu item, saying "this same price, this good". So, we looked around and noticed that those who came after us already got their orders. We followed up, then the lady in charge promised 4-mins (from 1 hour). Then 4 minutes passed and the lady in charge promised another 5-mins. 5 minutes passed and she weren't anywhere to be found. I told everyone in our table to stand up to get their attention. We were calling the other waiters and it was very obvious that they were ignoring us intentionally. I demanded we cancel all our orders. Then the lady in charge came back with only 2 pcs (a menu item) of our order. We demanded to cancel everything else except what was served (10 pcs rice, 2 pcs of 1 item that we ordered, 2 pcs of 1 item that they forced us to get, a beer). We concluded by paying what was served and just pack everything for take out. While they were packing our food. I argued that we ordered 6 items. They wouldn't believe me. Then, I used a translator saying that the waiter got our order wrong. So she said she's sorry she can't understand (denying the fault)... In conclusion, they were planning not to serve us on time since they thought we were cheap customers even if we ordered ahead of a lot...
Read moreWow, this place was buzzing with people! Luckily, I was able to snag a spot on a weekday. We decided to dive into the Flat Noodles with Beef and Pork, and they were absolutely delicious! Pairing that with some refreshing Asahi Beer was a perfect choice.
Next, we sampled a variety of steamed goodies: scallops with Garlic and Vermicelli, Mussels with Garlic and Vermicelli, and Clams in Black Bean Sauce. We even tried the Spicy Crab with Burnt Garlic. Each seafood dish was super fresh and just delightful!
Now, fair warning—the prices are a bit on the higher side, probably due to the location, and the streets are filled with tourists. I ended up spending around 800 HKD plus the three Asahi Beers. It's definitely a good idea to check the prices before you place your order!
It’s a great spot if you’re looking to dig into some local Hong Kong-style cuisine. Highly...
Read moreI've eaten here twice, a few weeks apart. The food was tasty enough - but not a patch on, for example, the Java Road street food market. The portions are very large, but it's also expensive, being in such a tourist trap location (even for a UK restaurant, which is my benchmark). The Singapore noodles were pretty good, but the garlic steamed bak choi was not soft enough on the first occasion. The black bean beef with spring onions was a little on the chewy side. It's a good location and being one of the larger restaurants here you get to enjoy the hustle and bustle, the weird sea creatures in bubbling water containers - it's an "authentic" experience. The service was quick and accurate. The menu is extensive, and has photos of most dishes and English descriptions. It's a safe option - but next time I'll try some other place, there's so much...
