Shanghai Grandmother Restaurant on Fuzhou Road is a genuine local gem that we found ourselves returning to multiple evenings during our stay at the nearby hotel. The food is simply great—comforting, flavorful, and served in very generous portions that offer fantastic value.

A major highlight for international visitors is the highly accessible menu. It’s beautifully presented in English and includes clear photos of the food dishes, which makes ordering a breeze, even for those unfamiliar with Shanghai cuisine.

Despite the fact that the staff speaks very little English, the service is genuinely warm and highly efficient.

If you enjoy a kick of heat, you absolutely must try their signature spicy dish: the Pached Beef in Sichuan Spicy Sauce. It's a standout item that is intensely enjoyable.

This restaurant is highly recommended for anyone looking for authentic, delicious Shanghai food in a...

The food at this restaurant was enjoyable, but the service left much to be desired. As someone whose English isn’t perfect, I felt disrespected when the staff smirked at my attempt to communicate my order. I asked for Coke zero anf the server laughed at my face, saying “Wow you are so funny.” It was disrespectful and made me uncomfortable, which overshadowed the quality of the food. Not to mention on the day we went, opening time was supposed to be10:30 but at 10:45 we still had to wait outside waiting for the staff to finish getting yelled at. While the meal was good, the lack of professionalism and respect from the staff makes it hard for me to recommend this place or...

Good, authentic food for a reasonable price.

The queues were quite long when we arrived for around 7pm on a weekday. But they did move relatively fast which helped (we maybe waited around 15minutes).

The menu had a lot of choice with many pictures to accompany the dishes, so you know what to expect. They had both Chinese and English menu's also. Some of the staff were also English speaking.

Be prepared to share tables if your travelling as a couple or small group.

There was a mix of locals and tourists here which was good to see. Would recommend coming here to try some local food which is well priced. The pork belly and egg fried rice I...

This restaurant was recommended by our bike tour guide. It was however not that fantastic. We arrived 1 hour before closing time (they close at 21.30h), which was quite early and were told that we had to order fast. We asked for an extra set of cutlery and cup while taking a look at the menu, but they refused in the beginning because we had to order first before they serve us drinks and make the table ready for us. Very strange service. The food was OK, but nothing spectacular. By closing time, one of the female waiters literally sat next to us, stared and yawned towards us (clear sign of telling us to hurry up). I would not recommend this place at all.
