If you walk down the pedestrian shopping street from People's Square subway station towards the Bund riverside area, you may notice that the buildings start to change in style notably. The buildings are made of stone and are very different from traditional Chinese ones. You have entered the former German concession of Shanghai, the area once controlled by German interests.
The buildings are either elegant and sophisticated or oppressive and imposing depending on your perspective but they are definitely historically meaningful and impressive testaments to the colonial history of Shanghai.
I recommend wandering up and down a few of the narrow streets before ascending to the Bund itself. You will appreciate the juxtaposition of ultramodern skyscrapers across the rivers with the German edifices on this side even more.
Pro Tip Inside many of the old buildings are restaurants, hotels or areas you can access for a fee. Unless you are possessed by an overwhelming desire to part with a lot of money, you would do well to enjoy the buildings and get some nice photos...

Read more上海外灘的建築群是從清末開始的,各國在上海割據一部分爲各國的租界區,因此不同國家的建築設計就在此林立。白天可以欣賞建築的外觀設計和妝飾,晚上欣賞燈光秀,也很美。從南京東路步行街一邊逛街一邊往外灘移動,但是暑假期間人真得很多,又因為繁花電視劇,和平飯店前面拍照的人潮實在太多了,有警察在現場維持秩序。今天發現就算是跟著人流都靠近不了外灘的綠地公園。南京東路的兩旁賣雪花膏和保養品的店家變多了,而且每一家店都裝修的好有特色,有文青風的也有古典風格的,都讓你想要一逛再逛。建議大家可以在平常時間來看看,千萬不要在假日來,是不是能夠細細品味的。附近的豫園和上海博物館也可...
