Vivian is the cook and owner of the restaurant and she very kindly had a last minute slot for us to dine in her kitchen. Shen mentions that everything is bought and cooked fresh. It is also in small portions so it remains affordable~
She was very nice, while she was cooking she also served us our meals and cleared our table for us. She imports all her ingredients from Portugal (if I’m correct) including the drinks and wines!
We love the octopus salad it was well seasoned and the octopus was tender and fresh. Lots of onion and it was really sweet, it was definitely not raw onions!
Then we also had the lamb chops it was cooked to perfection tender and fatty, not gamy at all! Also the pulled pork bun was really special, the mini baguette is a Portuguese style bun and it was nicely toasted and airy! The pork was nicely seasoned with Portuguese styled herbs and spices!
There’s this potato cakes with fish that was also made in limited quantities which we tried, not too oily and the fish taste was very subtle.
The mussels were also very fresh and plump and so well seasoned, a very simple yet refreshing seafood dish.
The baked duck rice was also very aromatic and the spaghetti carbonara was really delectable.
We ended the meal with a sweet peach juice and a pineapple soda!

Read moreMacau has an amazing food culture (Chinese fusion with Portuguese), and has been a highlight of our Asia trip. We accidentally stumbled across My Messy Kitchen in the quiet back alleys of the old Taipa historical area, away from the hustle of the main touristic areas, and our lunch there was by far the best we meal we had in Macau (and we tried many well known restaurants)!
There are two parts to the restaurant - a sit down restaurant upstairs that you have to book/reserve, and a downstairs standing bar, similar in vibe to a San Sebastian pintxos bar, where you can eat the same food.
We ate downstairs, which is located in a very picturesque pink hewn alleyway. The food is top notch, full of natural umami and good quality ingredients. It feels like home cooked food but very elevated. As we were a group of 9 we ended up trying everything on the menu. Everything was delicious, with very warm and gracious service from the owner & staff there.
My son loved their bacon carbonara so much, we ordered a second bowl and he gave it a "million out of a...
Read moreWe had such a lovely lunch at Vivienne’s restaurant (she is the owner/chef). We were a party of 3 and ordered the clams, octopus, chicken wings, ox tail and coconut ice cream - everything tasted incredibly delicious, light and natural. Vivienne makes every dish from scratch using natural ingredients so if you’re looking for authentic Portuguese cuisine, this is an absolute must try in Old Taipa. She speaks Cantonese, Mandarin, and English fluently so her clientele is quite cosmopolitan as you can imagine. Vivienne is such a warm and gracious hostess and took the time to give short explanations of how she prepares each dish. Be advised the restaurant can only serve 3-4 medium sized tables with only a dining area upstairs (soothing Bossa Nova music playing in background) and bar seating downstairs. It is more tailored for couples/small family style meals vs the chaotic bustling of a fast food chain. An incredible gem and definitely one of our...
