How I wish I could go to Quebracho on a weekly basis if it were not for he fact that I live abroad. It's an incredible restaurant and experience for every single reason a restaurant should be incredible.
Service: Some of the best of any restaurant I've been to anywhere in the world. Incredibly attentive without being over-bearing, showing initiative to provide items before they are requested (hot plate for steak if you are enjoying something else), and attention to detail by the staff and manager so that you enjoy the best experience possible.
Side note: There was a day where we had gone out to the walled city during the day (it was hot and humid) and we were wearing "hot day" clothing i.e. sleeveless tank, shorts, flip flops. As the night descended and we were on our way back to the hotel we decided to stop by for a to-go bite from here. The doorman was dutiful in letting us know that we would not be able to enter the restaurant in our attire as it was now evening. The manager then came out and greeted us with a smile and explained that evening attire would be required to dine in the restaurant but he would allow us to order to-go and remain in the vestibule (couch and air conditioner) while we waited. As we waited, we were offered a snack and we enjoyed a glass of wine while we waited. We received our food and were on our way, happy.
Atmosphere: The highlight of the atmosphere category is the volume of the live music that they have in the restaurant. This restaurant does it correctly; you get to eat your delicious dinner while you hear talented live musicians serenade you with beautiful boleros and the like all at a reasonable, comfortable volume as it should be. The beautiful decor feeds the eyes and mind as the music soothes the soul and the food nourishes the body.
Food: Please try the beef soup. It is phenomenal! The meals were prepared in the right amount of time and were served in a reasonable amount of time. Creme brulee was great, and everything we ordered was delicious. Seeing that I was enjoying everything on the table, the staff was quick to proactively bring a hot plate to place my steak on so that it wouldn't get cold as I ate other things.
Overall, this restaurant is phenomenal and truly one of the best we've had the pleasure of visiting in our travels. DO...
Read moreThe only bad meal we had in Cartagena. We ordered a churrasco (medium) for our kids to split. They split it for us and served it on 2 plates. The kids seemed to be having trouble cutting but we didn’t really pay much attention to that. The kids then were having trouble chewing it. The lighting in the restaurant is very dim. I then took out my phone and noticed that the meat was actually cooked very rare. The waiter never came to check on us, even though my wife and I still had not received our food. We finally got the waiter’s attention and showed him the steak. He said it looked medium to him. I then shined the light from my phone and he could clearly see that it was basically raw. We had ordered our steaks medium rare and told him that if this steak was medium, we wanted ours medium plus. He then took a large piece to show to the chef. We then asked him what did the chef say and he said, yes it was under cooked. No offer to bring a new steak or remove from the bill. We then ordered a pasta dish for the kids because the steak was not edible. Of course, we were charged for the steak and the pasta. Our steaks were ok, certainly nothing special considering the price point. The menu said all the steaks came with creamed spinach, which they did not. I didn’t even bring that up to the waiter because I’m someone that rarely complains about my food or even write a review. However, this was such a terrible experience all around that I felt compelled to let others know. Mediocre food at best, especially for the cost. Service was horrendous. We had much better food and service in Cartagena, and this was by...
Read moreCame here and got the french onion soup, Punto de Ancha, and the Seafood Cazuela.
Overall this is one of the best steakhouse/restaurants you can come to in Cartagena. The service is superb and the food is amazing.
The French onion soup was delicious. If you're used to US style french onion soup you're in for a treat. The soup is not salty like most US restaurants offering. Instead the Latin Colombian flavors really shine through and the cheese brings a delicious flavor profile to the soup that elevates its taste.
My steak was cooked perfectly rare, and it was delicious. The quality was top notch and they seasoned it to perfection with big lumps of kosher salts. The meat is the main attraction and at Quebracho they do not disappoint! This steak is one of the best I've had and it would be a phenomenal steak anywhere, not just in Cartagena.
My partner ordered the Seafood Cazuela and it was the best Cazuela I had in Cartagena. Full of seafood, big shrimps, lobsters, and fish. The flavors were big, bold, and delicious. I was very surprised that it was better than the seafood cazuela I ordered at the well known and highly ranked seafood spots here in Cartagena.
In short, come here hungry and with an appetite, you will leave needing a horse carriage ride back...
