El Bacchanal — Restaurant in Guatapé

Beware of this place if you’re visiting alone & are a foreigner. I was drugged and robbed by the bartending staff while drinking with them, and I even later met someone else who was set up to be robbed as well here and who shared a similar story as mine. On the outside, it seems like a great place. Cool expats hanging out, western food options. The bar is run by a guy from Australia, Nathan, his Colombian girlfriend and another gentleman from Canada I believe, named Josh. Josh isn’t there as much, so it’s tough to say if he is in on the scam. If I had to guess one way or the other, I would say no. They will be friendly and pretend to be your friend. But if you show signs of wealth, such as a decent amount of cash on you when you pay your tab, there is a chance of foul play, particularly if you are alone and come back. This will give them time to plot on you. I was drinking there on my second night in Guatape, while I had over $100 usd on me, I suddenly blacked out and woke up in my hotel with no money. I didn’t have much to drink, about 3 cocktails. I went back the next day, and they said I hadn’t paid my tab. When I asked them about the money that went missing, they said it must have fallen out of my pocket when they called me a tuck tuck home. The whole time while telling me this, Nate, from Australia, couldn’t even look me in the eyes. I’m sure the response to my review will be “fake you never went here” or “we would never do that” etc. This 100% happened and I have no reason to lie. I will plan to share this review on other sites, and edit it if necessary to include what happened to the other person i met. Avoid this bar at all costs if you value your safety and personal belongings- it is not worth...

My group decided to come here after our day climbing La Piedra del Penol. After a rigorous day of stair climbing, we needed a taste of home (USA) so this looked like a great option for some greasy American fare, and we were not disappointed! We started with wings, which were fantastic! I was pleasantly surprised by the fish & chips, which were cooked to order and to perfection! My girlfriend inhaled her pulled pork and I'm not sure she even tasted it, but she was very happy with her decision. My friend was delighted to have a "Big Mac" to replenish the day's spent calories and I don't remember what his fiancé ordered but she was brought back to life from her meal! Our server Chris was very helpful and fluent in English, which was helpful in our braindead state from the active day. Great place for a bar & grill type menu and fantastic drink...

We went to this place based on the google reviews but the experience was not even close to the restaurant's rating. We asked for something listed on the menu but it was not available therefore we had to switch. One of us picked a burrito which also had some side plantains included. Asking the waiter if we can replace those with french fries without additional cost - his answer:yes! The surprise was that when the bill was provided this switch was not free anymore! Of course they added the service - which eventually can be turned down but here comes the 2nd suprise: Paying by card adds a 5% to the total - guys we are in 2022 , cards are the evolution of the humankind , not to mention that the usage of a bank pos is not even close to 5% !!!

Our food was basic so could not made for a better experience...
