Restaurante Folklore in Guatapé serves up one of the most mouthwatering burgers I've ever eaten—and I'm from the US, land of plenty when it comes to burgers! This casual outdoor restaurant may not look like much, with its picnic tables and relaxed vibe, but their signature 'Hamburguesa Folklore' is a revelation.
The burger arrives on a platter, not a bun: two huge hand-formed patties cooked to juicy perfection and topped with gooey cheese, sliced avocado, tomato, and onion. The accompanying fries are thick-cut and crispy, perfect for dipping in the garlicky aioli.
With views of the colorful homes of Guatapé cascading down the hillside and the hulking form of El Peñol de Guatapé rock looming above, Folklore is an ideal place to kick back with an ice-cold beer and one of their enormous burgers. Everything here is made to share, so don't be shy—dig in with friends and family for an unforgettable feast in the heart of Colombia's cuisine.
The US may be known for burgers, but after eating at Restaurante Folklore, I can declare that Colombia takes the crown for the world's best burger. If you only eat one hamburger in South America, make it the...
Read moreThe place was quiet at about 1pm-2pm. The bandeja paisa (35k) was ok-ish but I've tasted better ones. It was strange that it came without an arepa, which is what it always has to come with. The beans were not tasty, as if they came from a tin box. The trout with chilli (the one with yellow ají - 35k) was very thin (we've eaten bigger ones and much tastier in Bogotá) and the sauce was too sweet (the waitress was unable to tell us what it was made of, so the taste was a surprise). The French fries were very soft (not crispy as they should be). What we didn't appreciate is that the menu does not state that the service is not included and it was 10% added to our bill. We've been to plenty of restaurants and if the service (tip) is not included, it should be explicitly written. A tip is usually when the service is very good, here the waitress did nothing but her job (take the order...
Read moreWe went here when we visited Guatapé. I did a careful search because I didn't want to fall in to a tourist trap. I was so happy I found this place. Not only the food is amazingly delicious but also it is traditional Colombian food. The service is great, cold drinks amazing food and has a wonderful view of the city and lake and to top it all the price is unbeatable in a city that wants to price themselves above Medellin. We had two main dishes bandeja paisa and another that had steak, rice and fried plantains and two cokes for $ 8.00 uds per person including tips. Do yourself a favor and go past the tourist traps and allow yourself to have real authentic...
