Restaurante Hacienda Manila — Restaurant in Medellín

My bandejita (a mini-meal) was just perfect. After struggling with the huge portions of the regular bandejapaisa in other places, this little packet was just the thing for me. All the favourites were still in play - the fried plantain, the beans and rice, the egg, the mince and fried meats, and the delicious sausages. Just the avocado felt tasteless and dry. Terrible, slow, overpriced food and they tried to scam me.

I ordered the trout and a mandarin drink. The menu said clearly that you could chose a side with it. I chose avocado.

When it cane out it had a tablespoon of rice, beans, avocado and butter in the trout.

I got charged separately for all of them. This took the bill from 39k to 50k with their compulsory tip.

I brought it up with the waitress and she said 'the rice was included as your side instead of the avocado because it is more expensive!'

Food was bland and...

When researching what I should eat in Medellin, the main result was Bandeja Paisa - so I was pleased to find Hacienda Manila on the same street we were staying on.

It was a really nice, clean restaurant and I thought the perfect time to debut this dish. All five of us went for it and loved it.

The dish has so many elements, from the beans, to the pork belly to the ground beef - there's a lot going on. But it really works and it was a superb alternative to a british fry up, I'd choose...
