Surprisingly good. As a lifelong Philadelphian, I was shocked.
Apparently the owner is from South Jersey... In Philly, he wouldn't get a pass, but on a totally different continent, he's close enough.
Normally, I would NEVER eat a cheese steak outside of Philly, but I have been away from home long enough to crave one, and decided to give it a go.
The meat was a little bit harder to chew than I'm used to, but the bread was surprisingly good, the meat to cheese to onions ratio was respectable, and the seasoning was on point. If they had wrapped the sandwich before giving it to me, the bread would have been 🤌🏽 perfect. The best sandwiches come from the bread having that little bit of time to absorb the steam from the meat, but it was still really good.
My only complaint about the sandwich was that I asked for mayo and ketchup, but they gave me those in little cups on the side. It's just not the same when the mayo isn't slathered on the roll before the fillings are added and the ketchup drizzled over the top. The flavors don't mix the way they're supposed to when you put it on after the fact.
I also ordered the bacon cheese fries, and they were good, but, in my experience, Colombians, apparently, don't cook their bacon til it's crispy and I don't like that. I want mine crispy AF and crumbled, not soft enough that it can be cut into neat little squares. Lol. I shared with a Colombian friend and he loved them, tho.
I also had a limonada de coco. It was delightful.
They also have chicken cheese steaks, buffalo chicken cheesesteaks, roast pork, meatball sandwiches, and soft pretzels on the menu, as well as actual breakfast sandwiches including on a bagel, which to date, I have not been able to find here. My little Colombian friends have been completely stumped by the idea of a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich, but they have it here!!!!
There's a full bar, plenty of Philly memorabilia, including a gigantic map of Center City and mural of the Linc, and a giant TV, which I assume would have been playing Philly sports, if any of our teams had been playing when I visited. Oh, they have both indoor and outdoor seating, and sell...
Read moreVisiting from Miami/LA and ordered 3 subs cause I’m a fat boy and it’s cheap that’s what I do in Colombia lol anyway the grandmas meatball sub is funny because we have a family joke when my Italian mom (grandma) wants to cook she has the meatballs Sit and cook in sauce for damn near days but when she doesn’t want to cook she makes this type of meatball lol a little more of a firm meatball non the less tasted good the bread was soggy but that’s ok I just ate it with a fork and some reds on the side. The chicken Philly was good wasn’t expecting actual shredded chicken but that reds hot sauce can make anything top tier “I put that sht on everything” lol they toasted the bread so it wouldn’t be soggy for me and the Philly cheese steak was phenomenal American cheese onions the works really good I actually ordered the Philly first but saved the best for last in the review. My bread was soggy as well. My only advice to people ordering is ask for toasted bread. The Philly was my fav very very good. I’ll be back for that sometime before my departure. Staff was very attentive and nice people and we had American football to watch! Definitely recommend stopping in and 1000% recommend the Philly cheese steak. Side note I read somewhere where the owner said he imported provolone and American cheese but was told they don’t have prov but that’s cool the American was good. Loved the sub almost as good as pats and Genos in Philly. I’ll...
Read moreWas hoping for an authentic Philly cheesesteak, or as authentic as you can have in Medellin. Unfortunately, we were really let down by the quality of the bread, steak, onion/peppers and the length of the sub for the price we paid. The taste was just not there, and the bread was pretty bad. The amount of steak in the sub was quite small, it was like 60%-70% bread and 30% meat/onions/peppers. Apparently, the owner is from Philly and I am from that region of the country, so I know a thing or two about cheesesteaks. The price point was pretty bad too, think US prices. Two cheese steaks cost us around seventy thousand pesos, just under twenty USD which is pretty outrageous. At Jersey Mikes in US you can get a giant Mikes style cheese steak (fifteen inches) for fifteen to sixteen dollars before tax and its massive, enough to feed two people. So, in fact this restaurant is more expensive than Jersey Mikes in the US which is pretty hard to fathom. Even if we are in Medellin, we are in Colombia, not North America, people earn minimum monthly salaries of two-hundred and fifty to three-hundred USD/month here, so the prices are totally out of whack. We won't be returning here, just not worth the price point and meager sub size with little meat (mostly bread). Paying American prices or higher in...
