Since Colombians like their food bland and for sure not spicy, natives who have never had better or more authentic Chinese food might like it. Hence the high ratings. Mostly translated from Spanish.
Being an American from San Francisco, where we have the largest Chinatown outside of China, I know what good Chinese food is supposed to taste like. And this isn't it.
The setting is lovely. The service is mediocre. If my water glass was empty I ha to ask for more water. I sit down, he hands me a menu, then hovers silently like I should know the menu by heart and order immediately.
There were only 4 tables occupied, two waiters, who spent their time talking to other employees. The waiter was not in the least friendly. His "Con mucho gusto" was robotic.
I was dining alone for lunch. They have no lunch menu and the portions are enormous and priced accordingly. 56,000 pesos for beef chow mein and hot and sour soup. No drinks, no tea and no dessert.
The noodles are boiled not wok fried. Gummy instead of slightly crispy. The only vegetables were jalapeños with the spicy centers removed. And this item has a red chili beside it in the menu. Except there was no red chili in the dish. Nor onions, no sea same oil, nor fresh garlic, nor carrots or long beans or anything. Pretty bland even with a lot of added garlic chili sauce and soy sauce. Basically noodles, seedless jalapeños, and beef.
I like hot and spicy food. If I am not sweating profusely from my forehead, it was not picante enough.
I told the waiter 7 out of 10 picante and that I liked spicy food. Without hot garlic oil it was a 1. With the hot garlic oil maybe a 3.
If I am going good to pay $18 US for lunch it better be great. Split 4 ways, it's $4.50 each. But no individual sized plates.
I am taking half the chow mein home. Not sure I will eat it unless I can add something.
The big problem for ethnic restaurants is getting the ingredients, especially the spices.
Maybe as Colombians travel more or meet more foreigners, they will educate their palette.
Then there will be a good business opportunity to import foreign foods beyond peanut butter, M&M's, and Kelloggs Frosted Flakes.
This place makes Panda...
Read moreWe had a great experience eating here. We are visiting from Mexico and USA and after enjoying a week of eating typical Colombian food, we opted to eat Chinese. What a treat. The restaurant is beautiful, the service is professional and friendly and the food is fantastic. Both of our entrees were loaded with fresh vegetables that were cooked to perfection (not over cooked like we’ve experienced at other Chinese restaurants). The meats were tender and plentiful. We definitely recommend this restaurant if you are wanting Chinese...

OLD 5 star review: Great service, great location, food is really good. We had the orange chicken and the Kung pao and they were both amazing. Would definitely...
