Dining at Rocoto in Medellín was a fantastic culinary adventure. This restaurant stands out for its unique fusion of Peruvian and local flavors, and each dish I tried was a delightful experience.
I started with the “Al Escabeche Causas “ which were a revelation. These traditional Peruvian dishes, made with layers of mashed potatoes and fresh, tangy toppings, were incredibly flavorful and beautifully presented. The balance of taste and texture in each bite was impressive.
Next, I had the “Tiradito Tres Sabores”, a standout dish that truly captured the essence of Peruvian cuisine. The variety of flavors—from the spicy to the tangy—was perfectly balanced, and the freshness of the ingredients made each mouthful a joy.
The “Fettuccini a lo Macho” was another highlight. The pasta was cooked to perfection, and the rich, savory sauce with seafood had a depth of flavor that was both hearty and satisfying. It was clear that a lot of care went into crafting this dish, making it a standout on the menu.
For dessert, the “Tartar de la Casa” was a delightful way to end the meal. The combination of fresh, high-quality ingredients in a beautifully balanced tartar was both refreshing and indulgent.
Overall, Rocoto offers an exceptional dining experience with its innovative take on Peruvian cuisine. Each dish was crafted with precision and care, making it a memorable spot for anyone in Medellín looking to enjoy a flavorful and...
Read moreThis would have been my 4th time at Rocoto in 2 years. I had a similar situation the last time and I just shrugged it off. I don’t live in Medellin, I vacation here, and this was always my “Go to” spot. It was the first place put on a list for friends visiting Medellin. NOT ANY MORE!
It was 8:00 in a Monday . It was raining and the cab dropped us off. We walked up the stairs and the rudest, nastiest hostess/ server looked at us and said there was no table for us. What??? It wasn’t full, and quite obvious tables were available. I was nice and didn’t question her and as my husband and I started walking down the stairs … in the most obnoxious, snarky tone she said in Spanish ( probably not realizing I understood) that we should go across the street to an empty restaurant that serves meat. Gracias but No gracias. Nasty!!!
To the owners and management of Rocoto…your loss is another’s gain. We found a very nice restaurant right down the street and they were welcoming and FYI… the food was just as good, if not better.
Rocoto… you’re in a service industry. No matter how pretentious you pretend to be… it’s only food and there are plenty of others out there ready to replace you.
So NO… I will never step foot in or recommend this...
Read moreHaving just arrived in Medellin, we first stumbled upon Rocoto for our first meal. Elevated from the street and surrounded by greenery, you can't help but feel like you have stepped into the jungle. The rushing stream below only adds to the effect.
As we were just off a plane, drinks came first. They take their Pisco Sours seriously, so we ordered a Pisco Basil Mash and a glass of Albarinio. The minute I saw they had squid ink empanadas, I had to try those, and they did not disappoint. The black masa exterior was as impressive as the delicious filling. The next obvious choice was the ceviche, followed by a Causa. This multi-layered potato dish is served cold and features a unique filling; ours featured avocado and two types of chicken decorated with a dynamite sauce. This causa was DYNOMITE!
While we were clearly in Medellin, Colombia, we felt transported to Lima, Peru. Rocoto is an excellent spot to try something authentic and different from the...
