Arenal Bongos 3 — Restaurant in La Fortuna

Don’t like to post negative reviews, but felt like it was necessary this time. No service - server/bartender was on her phone the whole time we were there. We had to go get our own plates, our own to-go boxes (then had to pay for them), and could not get a second drink. Normally, I wouldn’t care about having to get my own things, but we were charged a service charge at the end of it all - just my wife and two kids, so not a large party. My wife ordered fish tacos and they came with cucumbers on them, which she is allergic to…. I explained this to our server and said we would just split what I had ordered, rather than having them remake it. We were told we still would have to pay for the tacos regardless. So, they “remade” them, and surprisingly they were ready in about 60 seconds! Same everything, just minus most of the cucumber. Again, I do not like to post negative reviews, but if this is how the business conducts itself people need to be made aware. The food was not good ...

I recently dined here while visiting the Volcano and waterfall had an exceptional experience! From the moment we arrived, the service was outstanding. Our waiter (Gerardo) was incredibly attentive and helpful, ensuring we had everything we needed throughout our meal. Make sure you ask for him he is a genuine person

The drinks were a highlight of the evening each one was crafted to perfection and added to the overall enjoyment of our dining experience. The food was equally impressive; everything we ordered tasted fantastic. I also appreciated how accommodating the staff was regarding my allergy, which made me feel safe and well taken care of.

I really don’t like to leave negative reviews however our experience at the restaurant last night was so below average that I felt a review was warranted to offer a different side to the other reviews on here. Firstly though, there is nothing I can fault with the service. The staff were friendly and attentive. Unfortunately the food though did not reach the same level. The Funghi pizza was under cooked and had more tomato than mushroom. The chicken quesadilla was inedible as it tasted like a cross between fish and tinned chicken meat and the Surtida Arenal Bahia which was a mixed meat, vege, taco platter with sides was big in portion size but flavourless. The cokes ordered by the teenagers were also all over there best before dates and were flat. I hope this was just an off night for them but it definitely did not live up to the reviews we used to...
