We visited Croatia from 11th to 18th June 2019 and stayed in a lovely guesthouse named Guesthouse Vrlic. The guesthouse is well positioned within 10 minutes walk from the harbour bus station and the harbour itself so easy access to ferries, a few minutes walk from the city and old city. We had a lovely apartment with a large bedroom, livingroom and a well fitted kitchen which gave us complete freedom. We were able to make our own breakfasts as we wanted as well as cook our own meals when we wanted to. There is a good market and good supermarkets within short walks where good fresh food can be bought. There are excellent restaurants and bars throughout Split, lovely fresh fish being a speciality but also offering for all tastes.||||Split is an excellent city to stay in, very vibrant especially at night lots of live music in particular within the old Palazzo di Diocleziano, good areas to explore, good to base yourselves and take bus trips. We made good use of the buses and ferries all good value. Didn't need to hire a car or taxi. For longer trips, for example to the Krka National Park with beautiful waterfalls, we booked and took the bus, excellent value.||||This was our first visit to Croatia and found everywhere clean and tidy, excellent food and drink, friendly people many of whom speak excellent English and German. A beautiful country we will explore more in the future.||||Despite all the excellent food we ate, our highlight was the superb ice cream and sorbet we had from Ela's. Her ice creams, not a massive range, but all are superb, all natural, not mass produced, offering unusual innovative flavours all of which we tried...
Read moreThis is a great guesthouse in very central location in Split only 5-10 minutes walk to old town and promenade area. We stayed at Guesthouse Vrlic twice in the space of a week - when arrived in Split for 2 nights then again before our departure and both stays were nothing short of exceptional. ||||Even after our flight was delayed arriving at the guesthouse at 1230am, the owner of the guesthouse was so friendly and gave us advice (in english) on the map when we first arrived so we could get up and be ready to see split the next morning.||||Both rooms were very nice and spacious and the wifi worked really well the whole time. There is a little courtyard area outside which seemed like a good place to sit and have a drink and two supermarkets were also in close proximity. ||||The rooms were very quiets and private with owners living on a different floor to guest rooms. There were lots of guidebooks and maps, etc for use in the foyer.||||Pricing was also fairly reasonable for Split considering the great location.||||Certainly had a homely feeling - could not fault our stay and would...
Read moreWe stayed for a week (Rooms 1 & 4) at this place. Pleasant enough and the host was very nice. It might be a regional thing but I wasn’t expecting the shower that you would have to hold instead of standing under it; temperature control was temperamental.||The air conditioning dripped in one room and was unsuccessfully repaired on the second day, but it worked effectively all the same.||Room 1 contains two single beds pushed together, not an amazing substitute for a double bed. Be careful not to fall in between!||Both rooms had good, small programmable safes. A private en suite too. Payment was at the end of the stay in cash (Euros or HRK).||Location was very handy for all forays into the city. Overall, very habitable but...
