I figured since I was by the ocean, I should at least try out some famous Croatian seafood! I ordered the octopus with chickpeas and a side of homemade bread. The bread came out first and tasted as if it had been frozen. Now, I'm not picky with food, and I find it pretty hard to mess up bread, but it was not great by any means. Then my main dish was brought out. I honestly could only eat half of it and that was only because I forced myself to. This dish made the bread taste like the best bread in the world. When my waiter asked how my meal was, I told him that I didn't like the dish but that the bread was good. His response was, "oh, okay" there was no reaction to me telling him that the food was not good. I thought that when he brought the bill out, he would take off the 12 kuna ($1.77) bread as a form of compensation, but when the bill came out, nothing was said or done. On top of that, my waiter was more concerned with the baby at the table next to me than anything. I'm in the hospitality and tourism industry and I always pay attention to and appreciate good customer service. If you're looking for a restaurant that cares about the people they are serving, do not go here. Usually I tip the waiter 10-15% in Croatia, and I ended up not tipping the waiter after the incident because of how poor my experience was. I would not recommend this place nor would I go back again."
The owner then had the audacity to respond to my review by telling me that I was by the sea and not the ocean (although a lot of people use both words interchangeably) and that I could have ordered something else (as if I would spend any more money at this awful establishment). A good owner takes criticism and uses it to make their business better. Instead, the owner of this restaurant went into to full defense mode trying to come up with any retort he could about my...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreCeliac friendly. This is a stylish restaurant on the outskirts of Zadar old town. We were immediately greeted by an attentive and friendly waiter who was patient with our questions about the kitchenās handling of gluten. Several gluten-free options were available and my wife chose Sea Bass Pet Bunara which was a creative merging of fish, swiss chard, scampi, broccoli puree and polenta with sun-dried tomatoes, tomato sauce, prawn shell stock, and toasted almonds. Each flavour was detectable and the experience was a very pleasant change from much of the fare we had seen in Croatia. For those able to eat gluten, the menu also offered many interesting choices. Unfortunately, the restaurantās web site does not provide a menu so itās not possible to stimulate oneās taste buds in advance by perusing options. Nevertheless, I chose a simple pulled Croatian pork with seasonal salad. While itās presented as a main dish on the menu, it really is only a salad with some pork. However, it was excellent and I chose to eat it slowly so I could savour each of the different flavour elements. I also chose a side order of bread which I donāt normally do. In this case I was very happy I did as two different breads were offered. One was a tender brown bread, while the other was a visual blend of two flours, one of which had been darkened by cuttlefish ink. In combination with the olive oil and vinegar on offer, these were a delicious complement to the pulled pork salad. Overall a very pleasant dining experience...
