Pizzeria LOCALE — Restaurant in okres Karlovy Vary

Used to be great, extremely disappointing at present (January 2023). 5 stars for memories and past experiences and 1 star for current state of this restaurant - averages at 3.

We have a holiday home nearby and therefore, have been very regular clients of the restaurant for quite some time every time we were in town. Notably, we came 4 or 5 times during a week in August 22 and were extremely pleased with the service, both quality and diversity of dishes as well as the value for money on offer generally.

Fast forward to January 2022, having been there a few times over the past few days, somehow it appears that in the space of a few months all of the above went seriously downhill... It feels as though ingredients are not as fresh and not of equal quality to what those used to be, dishes lack taste and seem extremely basic (i.e. not restaurant standard, especially any salads), pizza dough is extremely slim and toppings rather scarce. At the same time prices increased drastically, wiping any remaining value for money out. Not to mention that on two occasions our bill was inflated with items we didn't order (which were reluctantly removed upon request..!) and also, mind-blowingly we've once been charged for tap water (80 kc) and another time for a carton box for a takeaway pizza. Unbelievably poor service.

As a conclusion, not sure what happened at this restaurant between August 22 and Jan 23 (change of chef?), however, the resulting outcome is dreadful and it feels as though clients are being squeezed out of every possible penny (in an attempt to, perhaps, keep the business afloat?) which is a rather unpleasant feeling I must say. Unfortunately as things stands, this place has no more appeal than any other in Karlovy Vary so reluctantly, we will have to find another go-to restaurant for the future.

UPDATE April 2023: thankfully everything is now back to normal and this is a great restaurant with fantastic value for money. Very kind and helpful waiters, as well. Highly recommend hence why rating...

On Sunday 7.1. On the 24th, after a hard week, I took my beloved half for a meal. We always like it at your place and we look forward to it every time we come to Karlovy Vary to relax and visit your restaurant, because there is always something new there and we are always very satisfied. The environment is beautiful, the food is always great, for the money we always eat really well. The waitress is very nice, but it's just a terrible shame that she didn't pay full attention to us and instead looked forever at her phone in almost every corner of the restaurant, so unfortunately my wife and I had coffee and dessert elsewhere this time, because we probably wouldn't have waited, that too paying one has to almost beg with a look. I think it should look like the service, a little different, so I can't give more stars from the overall impression.

We visited in the evening when both the restaurant and the outdoor seating area were completely full, yet we still managed to find a table. The outdoor area is excellent – tasteful, comfortable, and very pleasant overall.

We had pizza, which was decent, though nothing particularly special. That said, I saw bruschettas on other tables and they looked fantastic – the kitchen clearly knows what it’s doing.

One amusing detail – they serve pizza with a pair of scissors (!). A bit of an oddity, and I’m not quite sure what to make of it, but it definitely made us smile.

Children were welcome without any fuss – which, as anyone in the Czech Republic knows, is not always guaranteed, so that was great to see.

The waiting staff were absolutely swamped – I really don’t envy them. Be prepared for longer waiting times. Still, they were working hard, stayed friendly, and always managed to exchange a few words. They deserve a proper rest – hats off to them.
