I cannot recommend this "restaurant"! We both work in the restaurant business ourselves & we were nothing but disappointed & shocked.
(Better go to another restaurant with delicous, fresh food & superb service - "La Hospoda" in Kalovy Vary! This is a restaurant we can recommend! It has sinilar prices for actually good food! Unlike U Křížovníků.)
U Křížovníků - a terrible place to eat! Safe your time, health & money and do NOT eat here!
abismal service/unmotivated, rude staff: at one point, we were the only 2 guests; still, we had to wait extremely long until our drinks and food orders were placed. One male waiter had long hair open - which is quite unhygenic & certainly not a standard of any respectable restaurant. There were 4 staff members chatting to their heart's content; not one of them bothered to ask us if we wanted to order more drinks or dessert or whether the food was to our taste (spoiler alert: the food was barely edible). We had to wait a long time for drinks as we saw how staff would rather chat than do their job. We had a starter, but instead of first carrying away the used/empty plates from the starter - which again is a "no brainer" especially gastronomy, the waiter basically just dumped our food on the table & only bothered to take some of the dirty/empty plates, bottles etc, as half of the empty cups & plates took up a lot if space on our table. We weren't offered a bigger table even though every single table was available. The red wine tasted very cheap as well (a cheap port wine is my guess) - he, the waiter with the long open hair, did not feel like offering to inform us of the (potential) wine choice. Also, we were not greeted when entering & no "goodbyes & thank you" were said from the staff as we left; the staff clearly could not have cared less about guests. Nobody asked us if we wanted to pay: we had to look for staff members.
the food was awful. The seasoning was off, the food was cold. The meat (rabbit leg) tasted like it had been made several days prior as it was extremely dry and tasted like a blend of gummy & plastic with lots of oil. The other meat dish (pork) was completely cold & basically tasted like fat. The sauces & side dishes tasted like store bought products - and not the good kind. The portions are big, but what's the use, if it is barely edible? Hours later, we still had that disgusting cold fat taste in our mouth: It really ruined our appetite for the rest of the day.
interor design: overall okay, but several frames & other decor items were crooked on the wall & it was dusty (etc.); it seems that little to no effort is put into keeping the place neat & clean. It's a reflection...
-too expensive (it's similar prices to other restaurants in this price range)/ bad price & quality ratio: service was bad; food was clealy not fresh.
I am scratching my head - how is this restaurant still in business? Nobody takes pride in their work or has skills in their profession they have chosen, it seems. The owner really needs to train the staff on adequate & professional etiquette & to attend to guests instead of gossiping about guests...
Moreover, the cook(s) desperately need to hone at least some culinary skills. It's a disgrace to serve that kind of food as reasonable to ask money for.
Read moreWas in Karlovy Vary- one of my favourite spots on earth- a couple months ago looking for a place that was opened in the evening. As you may know, the city becomes a ghost town in the winter months, especially in the evening hours... seriously, where do people eat out?! So few options... Anyways, the reviews seemed great and it wasn't that far from our hotel, so we decided to give it a go. First of all... that immense hilled road you have to take to get there is unlike anything else I've encountered in many years of worldly travels- my god! I don't think you could fit a pin up my arse as I descended from the top! But onto the restaurant... quaint little medieval looking spot in the basement with pretty limited seating. It was awkwardly quiet when we went- wish they'd had some gentle music playing to liven up the spot. Anyways, onto the reason it gets just one star... The food... The food might very well be the worst I had on my recent two month trip across Europe. Both my schnitzel and the chicken salad my companion got were extremely overcooked, to the point of being inedible. The schnitzel also had lots of bad bits of meat in it, and the breading/coating was extremely lazy. They tried to remedy the horrible ingredients by dousing everything with some garlic sauce, but even that didn't do the trick. I didn't allude to hating my schnitzel as much as I actually did hate it, but my companion made her thoughts on her chicken salad known and was, very kindly, told by the waitress (who genuinely seemed to feel really bad about this) that she wouldn't charge her. She was very nice and apologetic. Definitely won't go...
Read moreI'd like to give two stars for the food and drink that were good and refreshing. Unfortunately, the service didn't do justice to the food at all. First of all, we were the one greeted the staff and needed to find the table on our own. Then the menus were served by a waiter. We had to ask for the lunch menu of the day as it wasn't displayed on the table, while the other tables have them. Never mind. However, what made me decide to rate this restaurant only two stars was none of the waiters/waitresses even look at us trying to order. Three of six people tried to look into their eyes, no one ever looked back or walked close to our tables for a while. The waitress with long blond hair talked nicely in Czech with customers and just ignored us several times. After being able to order food and finish the meal. The payment process was even harder. I don't expect the service to be amazing and fully aware that I can't expect the locals to speak good English, but the manner and face expressions can be improved. At the end, it was the gentleman who helped with the payment. His service was okay, but the lady's disappointed us. Seeing the account owner replying to the other comments, I would like you to see what can be improved for your restaurant. Your food is already amazing, but the service...
