Velkopopovická Karlovy Vary — Restaurant in okres Karlovy Vary

We went to this restaurant one afternoon three weeks ago and had amazing food and service. The waiter was a really great man. He made us feel very welcome, asked how the food was, adjusted the lights accordingly to the sun in the restaurant, replaced the cutlery between dishes and gave us a free snaps on the house :)

Because of all this we went back for lunch two days later. Unfortunately it was nothing like the first time except for the food which was again excellent.

This time there was a female waitress and we had to ask for everything which made us feel uncomfortable.

First no olive oil on the table even though we pay for that in the couverte. It was very dark in the restaurant so we asked her to put on one light close to our table, she did it but rolled her eyes to us when we asked, we had to ask for extra napkins while eating the spareribs..

We felt she was in a hurry to clean off the table and when we left they went out with plates for their own lunch.

We came there the second time due to the great food and service when we went there Sunday afternoon but second was like another restaurant..

I wanted to make a great Google review but now my experience is very mixed so I emailed the restaurant to discuss our experience. Unfortunately three weeks later still no response so therefore I will...

Located a somewhat steep uphill trudge from the spa strip tourist zone, this pub is a gem - especially if you’re craving or just wanting to experience a real Czech meal. (It’s also a quick and easy walk from a bus stop if an uphill walk isn’t your thing, but I digress.)

Service is friendly and top-notch. Credit cards are accepted.

The menus we got were in Czech, German and English and include a short selection of appetizers, salads and beer plates in addition to the mains. We knew we wouldn’t have enough room to indulge in more than a main course so didn’t order more.

I had the pork loin and the server recommended the garlic potatoes with it. I could have made a meal of the potatoes alone. Very tasty. The pork was perfectly cooked and topped with the best kind of bacon - crunchy! I really shouldn’t have polished off the last piece of pork on my plate, but I couldn’t help it. I still had about a quarter of the potatoes left over, but no room. My husband cleaned his plate of duck as well and declared the portion was just right. He was comfortably full. I was stuffed :-)

We’ve visited this restaurant several times before the food is always delicious, the atmosphere is cozy, and our previous visits have left only positive impressions. However, this time we had an unpleasant situation that slightly spoiled the evening. My boyfriend and I came for dinner and ordered both a starter and a main course. While waiting for the main dish, a male waiter approached us and asked if some other guests could join our table. We politely explained that we would prefer to dine alone. Despite our response, the waiter pointed out that the table was meant for five people and seated other guests with us anyway. Fortunately, those guests also decided not to sit with strangers and left. It’s unfortunate that the waiter didn’t respect our answer since he asked for permission, we expected our choice to be taken into account. The situation felt disrespectful and left a negative impression. That said, the food was excellent as always, beautifully served and very tasty. The female waitress who has served us before is always friendly and attentive. We hope such incidents won’t happen again, because overall we really enjoy this restaurant and...
