Tourists - enter at your own risk. If you enjoy feelings of hostility and humiliation, this is the place for you. Otherwise, stay far far away or your Prague experience will be tarnished by an aggressive and condescending barista.
I disagree with many of the reviews here that say the service here is bad. There's bad service, and then there's unacceptable service. I can deal with slow or inattentive service, but as a paying customer there's no way in hell I will support a place where you are yelled at, belittled and humilitated when placing an order and asking simple questions.
I've truly never seen a more miserable man in a customer-facing job. He may as well just put a sign on the door 'tourists not welcome' to spare us the utter disrespect and discrimination. His hate towards foreigners is so blatantly obvious, he was literally shaking behind the counter with anger and impatience as I was preparing to place my order. The cafe was empty and before I could even place my order, this male barista called the girl at the back to take my order because he just dreaded serving me when he realized I was a foreigner. Mind you, his English is great, and as I began placing my order to the girl, he kept interrupting and raising his voice at me for misunderstanding the cup sizes.
They have a dessert display with no labels so good luck picking one to your liking let alone if you have any allergy concerns. I avoided asking the man to describe the desserts and just asked which is his best seller to avoid triggering him further. This question seemed to tick him off anyway as he proceeded to yell saying this is a very bad and stupid question as every day there is a different best seller. At this point he kept huffing and puffing and pacing back and forth pressuring me to order. To be honest, if it wasn't for my husband with me, I'd feel pretty unsafe.
I completely understand Czechs being put off by rowdy and disrespectful tourists, which you'll most often find frequenting the old town, but I can assure you those who visit this quaint little coffee shop are peaceful, mild-mannered foreigners just looking for a good cup of coffee.
If you are Czech, you will feel welcome here, as those who came in after me were greeted with a smile and friendly...
Read moreThis is one the cafes I have in my list and I wanted to go for a long time. I’m glad I wasn’t disappointed. The coffee was very well prepared and I liked that they served a warm cup with it. (It’s not that often) I tried the pumpkin soup which was really tasty. It’s a bit tricky to adapt to the service since the menu is in the entrance wall and you have to get up and see what they offer and then order there or at your table. They could just have a small menu and so there is less confusion. Next time that I will come(and this is something I plan to)it will be ok since I know the place and how they work. But better for the cafe to adapt to the client and not the other way around. Despite everything I totally recommend it and I will be visiting in the future.
Update: I visited this cafe today and the service was horrible. The man behind the counter when I asked for a drip said you can get get a batch brew which was not the best. His excuse was that on Sundays they are busy and they don’t offer drip. When me and my friends we got batch brew one of the guys asked for sugar for his coffee. The server basically laughed at his face for that and then brought it and dropped in if front of me with a bad attitude. So maybe next time you can be nicer to people that took 30 minutes trip to come to you cafe so you are rude to them and don’t serve them what you have on your menu. Rating reduced to 3 stars because I think for one bad sever the cafe...
Read moreGRUMPY GUY. We come here with my coffee connoisseur girlfriend all the time, since this coffee she likes the best in Prague, but she calls it At the grumpy guy, because of that one dude who works there. It's absolutely gorgeous place with high end coffee, but the service from the barista is a disaster. Just like all the other reviews, he is extremely arrogant and rude. Hates tourists, especially the English speaking ones. When he found out I am Czech, he got way nicer and he was also nice to other Czechs. Kinda racism maybe little bit. The dude is in a worng place. He should be in some hipster coffee place with 5 customers a day, and could discuss different brews in Czech and be happy. Not in a beautiful place where tourists expect to be treated according to the surroundings. Then it just ruins the place for everyone. I am sure he's not happy there either. Very sad thing to see. I hope the owner will figure out a way to solve this issue soon, since I am clearly not alone with this opinion, and they deserve much better ratings based on practically everything else... Edit: today he was not serving us, and it was a big WIN even the place was empty, we found a chairs at the tiny terase outside. I think I saw him though, so maybe they keep him away from...
