Food is very good. Prices are high. Service is neglectful. Ambience is very nice.

... after reading owner's response, I shall elaborate: i) Spicy food is best accompanied by lots of water to drink. This restaurant does not provide tap water, even though the public water supply is excellent in Prague. Instead, when the tiny bottle of mineral water is finished, we are dying of thirst, and no waiters are attending. ii) I asked for my beer to be brought at the same time as the food. When the food came, the waiter said the beer would be brought immediately. After 5 minutes, the beer had still not arrived (even though the restaurant was nearly empty at the time). I sought the waiter and asked again, and he said the beer was "right on its way." I waited another 10 minutes. By that time, my food was half finished and I was really in need of some liquid. I suggest you leave a large carafe of tap water at the table for every patron. It is the civilized thing to do. iii) As for price, I have traveled to four countries in Central Europe this week, and this meal was one of the costlier ones. However, for an upscale restaurant, it is not unreasonable. iv) The decor is very nice. The place feels like a cozy cave (in a good way). And the heating system keeps the space nice and warm in the winter. v) The portion of rice was too small for two persons. (I asked for enough for two.) vi) The main dishes, chicken saag and lamb vindaloo, were very tasty. vii) The porcelain plates were pre-heated, which is a nice touch. Please accept these remarks...

I had the worst ever experience at Lal Qila today. This place has the most rude and unprofessional staff. We went around 5 pm when the restaurant was 100% empty. We were a group of 7 who wanted to have some Masala chai mainly.(This place is 5 mins walking distance from my university) The waiter came to take our order. I informed him that we were still deciding what to order, but few of us will just have chai. After a few seconds, another waiter came out and told us that “this is a restaurant and drinks are a side dish, so you cannot just order drinks.” We didnt mind that, and also, more than half us did order food indeed. It was 5 pm so it was not lunch or dinner time for most of us. In a span of 10 mins they came to take our order 4 times (that was quite annoying). After serving, and us eating, one guy came to tell me that we must empty the table as they have a reservation at 6:30. Again, the whole restaurant was empty, but our table bothered them 😂 Thus we went to pay. After paying, we were just having a word with each other, when one of the waiters came and told me “thanks and please leave.”(and literally pointed at the door) We lost it at this point. When trying to ask why we bothered them so much, they became very angry. He told us that we are standing in the middle disturbing people (But there were no people 😂) I always tell my friends about how hospitable Indians are, and these people just ruined the impression. Honestly disappointed and would never...

The experience was good over here. They have a really nice and cozy space. The only problem i had here was with staff at the bar counter. So while we were paying for our food. The guy started to complain to us that outside food is not allowed inside and blamed us that we brought outside food inside their restaurant, but the food was their own, which we took a takeaway. He also he told us that we can not bring water inside and drink our own water, stating that it is their policy. Please tell me where this is written? On your about the policy. We had one water bottle, and my colleague didn't like to drink water from outside. I suggest people travel with their bagpacks not to go over here because you can't take your bottle inside the restaurant.

I think the waiter thought we were eating food from outside and that is why it was pissed which was their own food. I was there for the first time and for the last time. I will never go to a restaurant which has this kind of stupid policy. Neither will recommend going here.

Think about if you have a medical condition, and then this waiter telling you water is not allowed inside other than water we sell, which is available in nature.

You should be ashamed of yourself for showing this kind of behavior, which was totally rude. I haven't seen this kind of behavior anywhere...

I always try to go to an South Asian restaurant in every city I sleep in. This is by far one of the best I’ve been to. The atmosphere is amazing. It’s in a beautifully renovated underground room (I think from before the city street level was raised, part of the fascinating history of Prague) a short walk from several tram stops. The service was top notch. Very polite, quick to get me seated (though admittedly it was not busy when I went), answered my questions about an item on the menu, and food was out in an appropriate amount of time. And the food itself was delicious! I had a lamb kebab and chicken biryani (same thing I order everywhere, makes for a great comparison). The kebab was delicious. A bit different style seekh kebab than I’m used to but it was amazing. The biryani was just right. Had a more subtle flavor rather which I appreciated. I find a lot of restaurants can over do it with biryani. Also felt like this biryani was properly made rather than cooking the chicken and rice completely separately and then mixing them before serving that I’ve found a lot of places do. Also, it was very reasonably priced. Highly recommend. If I ever find myself back in Prague I’ll definitely come back here!

Lal Qila The Indian Restaurant, Prague Review Lal Qila The Indian Restaurant: This place earns a stellar five-star rating from me. Widely recognized as the number one Indian restaurant in Prague, Lal Qila offers an exceptional dining experience that leaves nothing to be desired. The food here is simply outstanding, with each dish bursting with authentic flavors and perfectly balanced spices. The desserts are equally impressive, providing a sweet conclusion to an already delightful meal. The culinary experience is enhanced by the friendly and attentive staff, who go out of their way to ensure every guest feels welcome and well taken care of. The ambiance of the restaurant is warm and inviting, making it a perfect spot for both casual dining and special occasions. Whether you're a local or a visitor to Prague, Lal Qila promises an unforgettable taste of India that stands out in the city’s dining scene. In summary, Lal Qila is a must-visit for anyone seeking top-notch Indian cuisine in Prague, thanks to its great food, amazing desserts, and exceptional service.

If you're looking for a taste of authentic Indian cuisine in Prague, Lal Quila is definitely worth a visit. Located in Italska, the restaurant boasts a unique, cave-like interior that adds to the ambience of your dining experience. The menu features a wide variety of dishes, and the chicken masala, mutton rogan josh, mutton korma, and chicken chilli are particularly outstanding. The spices are perfectly balanced, and the dishes are rich and flavorful. However, the biryani could use some improvement. When it comes to dessert, the kesar kheer and pista kulfi are both must-tries. The creamy, sweet flavors are the perfect way to finish off your meal. The servers at Lal Quila are some of the most attentive and friendly around, making your dining experience that much more enjoyable. The location is also fantastic, with its unique cave-like setting adding to the overall atmosphere of the restaurant. Overall, if you're looking for delicious Indian food in Prague with a unique ambience, Lal Quila is definitely worth a visit.
