Unnecessarily salty (and I like salt). Very little flavor. Chalky chicken. And you must reuse your plate, which means everything will blend together (and is very unsanitary, and not legal in most countries).
Verdict: I love Indian food (north, south, and everything in between), but if this were the only Indian restaurant in town I would just give up eating Indian food.
It’s not bad. It’s not good. But if you want to eat a lot of food, it is a lunch buffet.
Details: • 185 czk (no drinks included) as of 1/2024 • 11:00 - 14:30 • Does not seem to get replenished, except for naan • Naan seems to be from the night before • Items are barely warm, even at 11:45.
The good: • Chopped boiled eggs in salad greens was a nice touch. • Naan was refreshed quickly after it was depleted. • Great lighting.
The bad: • Salt — I love salt. I can take a lot of salt. This was salty to the point of leaving me nauseous. • Flavor — I understand why there is no heat in buffet Indian food. That’s fine. They have to cater to everyone. But the food lacked spice (cumin, mustard, masala, fenugreek, etc.). Even pulverizing whole spices once a week in a coffee grinder would have made these dishes much, much better. • Naan — the consistency seemed like they used what was left over from the night before. How Prague can have such amazing Neapolitan pizza, but such poor tandoori naan is beyond me.
The plate rule is a curious policy. There are laws in most places preventing this for sanitary reasons — because the serving spoon often mixes with what us on the plate, or splatters from the plate onto the common serving spoon. While I am always happy to help reduce a restaurant’s workload, cross contamination of people’s spit is not the place to cut corners.
There are also no bowls. The sauces are very thin, so a plate with two sauces becomes one sauce. A plate with the 5-6 offered would be a mess. See the picture I’ve attached for an example of how it eventually runs together and...
Read moreNice and well-decorated restaurant within reach of Andel metro station. This was my first visit but the food didn't live up to the expectations we had after reading other reviews and the restaurant's webpage.
The menu is pretty varied, with a decent selection. There's quite a large vegetarian section, although many of the spicy dishes such as vindaloo are only available in the meat section. Perhaps they think that someone who wants vegetarian food doesn't want spicy?!
We had the dhaba dal, saag paneer and veggie vindaloo (we specifically requested this, as we wanted meat-free and spicy). There was nothing particularly wrong with any of the food, just that it didn't seem very exciting or full of taste. None of the dishes stood out as more than average Indian cuisine, none of it was very spicy (even the vindaloo), and I had the suspicion that some of the vegetables were not fresh, but from frozen packets. We also noted that there was no coriander used. On a more positive note, the naan bread was good and the rice side dishes (pea rice, plain rice, lemon) were all very good.
The beer here is Staropramen on tap (the amount they served me was below the measure line on the glass – not good). The alcohol-free Staropramen is bottled.
The service was only perfunctory, nothing more – not overly friendly or welcoming.
I don't want to be unfair to these guys, but the food they're offering at quite high prices is below standard (we paid 1500 CZK, three people, no starters). Many locals in Prague are not too familiar with Indian cuisine and be satisfied with the food here, but for anyone who has experience with Indian food, this place will be a disappointment. And to those people I can't recommend...
