Restaurace U Skřetů — Restaurant in Prague

We were on the hunt for authentic Slovak cuisine in Prague and stumbled upon Restaurace U Skřetů—a true hidden gem! It took a bit of searching (the entrance is tucked away and the restaurant is downstairs), but it was absolutely worth it.

We tried the Bryndzové halušky and Pirohy bryndzové, and both dishes were absolutely delicious—rich, comforting, and full of flavor. Portion sizes were generous without being overwhelming. To drink, we had a Primátor 10° beer and a Limca, a unique and refreshing lemonade that was a fun surprise.

The service was excellent—attentive, kind, and genuinely welcoming. The ambiance is simple and unpretentious, with a rustic, authentic vibe that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a local favorite rather than a tourist trap. The bathrooms could use a bit more attention, but overall, the experience was fantastic.

So, they offer strapačky (halušky with cabbage) and halušky with brynza cheese. But if you ask if you can get combination i.e. halušky with the brynza cheese and cabbage the answer is no :-O. One wonders why? Extreme laziness of the cook? Doesn't want to give me one ingredient for free - come on, id' be willing to pay extra. Or simply they have packages from Makro frozen in freezer and they can't combine - the taste would suggest so. Also, they don't accept cards. No problem, I'm perfectly OK with businesses not accepting cards I'll run to ATM, no problem. But still I'm a customer, you can tell me nicely, maybe even apologize - whatever you think about cards I'm still a customer, not tell me "We don't, already for 14 years!" I know businesses which didn't accept cards for hundreds of years and than they've started! Unpleasant waiters and shop assistants are norm in the Czech republic, but even me as a local, I'm not willing...

My girlfriend and me went there. We didnt reach the bar when the waiter came and didnt say anything just this its not possible to eat there. When i asked when will be possible or i can reserve maybe he said no. I have never seen so rude and unfriendly waiter like him. I can understand everything if someone can explain it well and friendly way, but it was absolutly the opposite of the good service. I dont recomended to anyone just in this case if someone can tolarate...
