I visited Café Flottenheimer today with my mother and my gluten-free girlfriend, after seeing several gluten-free websites recommend this spot. Frankly, I’m shocked they did.
We ordered their brunch plate (185 DKK), expecting something special. Instead, we were told that for the gluten-free version, they simply remove the bread, yogurt with granola, and pancake and the quesadilla — replacing it all with one lonely piece of gluten-free bread. So we’d pay full price but get less than half the food. No effort to offer gluten-free pancakes or an alternative dessert, which should be easy for any kitchen in 2025.
The food that did arrive was bland and unremarkable. The scrambled eggs were soggy and flavorless, the salad was a joke (5 pieces of roughly cut cucumber 3slices of tomato and a single sad mozzarella ball), and the tiny pancake was forgettable. Worst of all, the bread was served so scaldingly hot it was almost painful to touch — suggesting it had been microwaved or rushed, not freshly prepared.
We also ordered a chai latte (45 DKK), which arrived in a half-empty cup, making the steep price even more insulting. Overall, the entire brunch was shockingly small, poorly executed, and priced like it belonged in a luxury hotel, not a casual Copenhagen café.
In short: Café Flottenheimer charges premium prices for food and service that fall far below even basic expectations. If you’re looking for a brunch spot that actually cares about its dishes and its gluten-free guests, skip this place and head to somewhere like Grød, where the portions are generous and the flavors are actually...
Read moreSo.. I can imagine handeling complaints is difficult, but this.. I have never experienced this in 30 years since I have (possibly life threatening) allergies. Asked for a sandwich without guacamole since I am allergic to avocado. Got the sandwich WITH obvious traces of guac. Waiter AND owner just walked away after my complaint, the female waiter made apologies on behalf of both of them. Not her fault but she was the only one who felt responsible. Owner came back, left in the middle of the conversation AGAIN to happily greet a customer and got angry when he came back and told him that was not okay and he wasn’t taking my complaint seriously. If it wasn’t such a serious thing I would laugh about how you obviously only care about happy customers and revenues. But someone could die in your place because of your carelessness. You could shut your place down it that happens. The least you have to worry about is letting someone wait to greet you. Please, do better Flottenheimer. Instruct your kitchen on allergies. And take a course on handeling difficult conversations for...
Read moreGreat atmosphere and cozy vibe with plants hanging everywhere and friendly staff. Other customers were also friendly, smiling and opening doors for each other. I had the halloumi sandwich, which was really good, nice with pesto and strawberries. The husband had a chicken burger and said it was ok but lacking some extra flavor, the pesto could have helped. We went here because it was listed as child friendly. The staff and customers were child friendly, but the restaurant itself isn't so much: no play area, no changing table in the bathroom, no high chairs. Our baby is 5 months old, and we would go back with him again, but would have to hold him the whole time and wouldn't say this place is...
