This restaurant has an excellent location in a small square centrally placed in CPH, but still somewhat outside the main tourist thoroughfare (Strøget). Such a pity that the service and food are just barely worth 2 stars. The service was very slow, even though the place was barely half full. It was virtually impossible to get the attention of the servers, and the waiting time for the food was very long. I ordered a bruschetta with tomatoes, basil and garlic for starter, and a ravioli with mushrooms and parma ham as the main course. After waiting almost 50 minutes, both dishes were served at the same time. I suspect they simply forgot to give me the bruschetta when it was ready. The ravioli was actually quite nice, and is the only reason I'm not going down to one star. The bruschetta was ok, somewhat tasteless tomatoes which I guess they tried to compensated for with more garlic (too much). Oh well, I guess I've had worse.
However, the real disappointment came when I ordered an affogato for desert. For those who don't know this is traditionally one or two scoops of vanilla ice cream served with a shot or two of espresso poured over. Delicious! Here the menu advertised it as Affogato Con Strega, that is with the addition of some strega liqueur. I've never tried that, sounded interesting.
I was very disappointed when it arrived. It was served in a large cognac glass (really big) which was half full with a room temperature coffee liqueur mix. On top was a huge mound of whipped cream. I've never heard of affogato with whipped cream, and there was no mention of this in the menu. To make things worse, after digging through the whipped cream I was unable to find any ice cream. Perhaps they had left it too long and the ice cream had simply melted? Was the whipped cream always part of the plan (despite not being mentioned in the menu), or was it an attempt to hide the fact that the ice cream was melted? Taste-wise it really didn't work, it ended up reminiscent of an Irish coffee without the heat (neither temperature nor alcohol content) (yes I know: no whipped cream in Irish coffee either).
When I pointed this out to the waiter he was argumentative and insisted that there was ice cream in there. Though to be fair, how would he be able to tell with the mounds of whipped cream? I sent it back with explicit instructions to drop the cream. When he came back the glass had two tiny boules of ice cream floating in the same coffee liqueur mix. Even this was a big disappointment compared to previous experience. Amazing how such a simple dish can be screwed up.
To summarize: if you have a lot of patience and perhaps only want a drink or two, this is a lovely spot to sit outside and enjoy the atmosphere. If you are hungry, somewhat discerning, and don't have the patience of saints I would try to find...
Read moreI’m a bit hesitant to write this because of what happened with my last review of this place, but I need to let others know my experience. I came here with a larger group (8 of us) with a reservation for a birthday. We were seated promptly and politely and given menus to look over. It took over half an hour to receive our orders, which isn’t totally unusual for Europe, but was irksome, and then another half an hour to receive our drinks, most of which were simple cocktails or just a glass of wine. They forgot my drink order and it actually took an additional fifteen minutes to receive it, after my friends received theirs.
Some of our food was okay, some of it wasn't even edible. The bolognese was pretty terrible as it tasted like tinned, lukewarm pasta with no seasoning. And although the menu did not list cheese as an ingredient, our pasta came with it meaning my severely lactose intolerant friend could not eat her meal. The risotto was similar unappetizing with hard rice. I asked for salt and other seasonings but was brushed off by the waitress who were scarcely seen all night. My whole party agreed that this experience was horrible, and with so much time on our hands trying to get a waiter to give us the bill, I left an honest review at the end of our meal detailing what happened.
When we finally got our bill (after waiting another half hour to forty five minutes) the head waitress came up to me with her phone in her hand and showed me my review on google. She asked me to take it down and that, in exchange, she would comp my meal. This was completely unprofessional and very embarrassing, considering that she confronted me in front of my party and the entire restaurant. I tried to explain that I would pay for my meal, and that I stood by my honest review, but she insisted that I take it down in front of her as tonight did not reflect the true value of the restaurant (some cooks were out sick, etc). Though that may be true, OUR experience did not reflect that. I did end up taking the review down just to appease the waitress who looked close to tears, but this humiliating interaction almost ruined our night.
To top it all off, at the beginning of the meal the waitress promised my friend a free dessert if she left a five star review of the restaurant. This was before we had even ordered our drinks. It makes one wonder, how many of these five star reviews are prompted by the appeal of free items?
I’m not saying don’t come here, but come at your own risk. It may be a good day, it may not be. Do you want to take...
Read moreI made a reservation to dine on New Year’s Eve, and nowhere was it stated that there would be a fixed menu costing €100. When I arrived at the venue at 8 PM, I found out about the nearly €100 menu, which included dishes exclusively with meat. I am a vegetarian, which is why I chose an Italian restaurant—to be able to eat pasta.
I informed the staff at the entrance that I don’t eat meat, and they assured me it wouldn’t be a problem. When I was seated, I also informed the waitress, who said it was fine and that they would bring me pasta with vegetables.
One of the courses was lobster risotto. When I said I wouldn’t eat that, they gave me a disapproving look and didn’t seem to understand that seafood is also meat. I had to skip that course and spent over 35 minutes without eating, with no alternative offered. Forty minutes later, after only having the starter (burrata), they asked me what I wanted to do about the main course—despite having already been told about the vegetable pasta. Then they left me waiting again for over an hour without food.
You go to a pasta restaurant to avoid eating animals, and they end up ruining your last day of the year, as if it’s your fault. The service and attention were appalling.
Of course, they charged me the full price...
