Went here for lunch today and my god I was impressed. I’ve heard about the place before, and I walk past every day seeing that it’s full at all times so they must be doing something right.
And yep, they do something right. There is nothing hidden about this gem, it’s right in front of Nørrebrogade and I absolutely loved sitting outside in front enjoying our food.
And about the food. We have two times Pho, one time noodle salad with beef and one time grilled lalot leaf on a bed of rice. I tasted everything, and I have to say there is truly nothing negative to say.
Everything was so insanely vibrant and fresh. The texture of the lalot leaf with beef filling was different and eye opening. I will order this the next time, and the accompanied sauce was insanely good. The beef noodle salad - my god - once again a dish carried heavily by the beef and sauce. The pho I had was great. The broth was clear and beautiful and full of flavors, the rice noodles still had bite to them and my broth was warm until I finished the dish. Wonderful.
Also, nice big hearty portions and fair prices. The price to portion size is on point. Totally fair, you get full and happy from your plate. This is important. Thank you Hanoi Alley, I will be back to try everything...
Read moreIt was my boyfriend and I's anniversary and we wanted to go out for a nice meal. The Hanoi Alley restaurant had been talking to us for a while as we walked past. That's why we decided to eat there. We paid almost 500 dkk (approx. 70€) for dinner for two. This is not a cheap meal, even for Copenhagen. There was no room in the restaurant itself, so we sat down on the other side of the street, where there is also a small room with chairs and tables. At first it smelled strongly of toilet and so we had to leave the door open for a while. When other guests joined us, the background noise was unbearably loud, but that's not the restaurant's fault. What was outrageous, however, was that the waitress then came to the table with plastic cups and non reusable bowls with the food in them and we ate out of the disposable dishes like at a fast food restaurant. The food itself was probably okay. However, the atmosphere spoiled everything. When the bread roll we ordered also came with the wrong topping, I was just annoyed. After half an hour, we were back outside and happy to be on our way home. If you want Vietnamese food, then fly to Vietnam instead. At least there are plates to eat on and no environmentally harmful...

Bread was warm and crusty, but not freshly baked — probably reheated. Still acceptable.
I ordered grilled pork, but got something swamped in five-spice sauce. It tasted more like Cantonese char siu than Vietnamese thịt nướng. Not bad, just not what I asked for.
Cucumber slices were fresh and crunchy, though a bit overdone — too many. It should really be one thick stick of cucumber, not a salad trying to escape the sandwich.
The pickled carrot and daikon were finely diced, but too subtle. They lacked the sharp, vinegary kick needed to cut through the sweetness of the sauce. No fight, no balance — just sweet-on-sweet.
What saved it? The coriander. Fresh, fragrant, and properly thrown in. That’s what told me this was still a bánh mì, not just another Nordic fusion sandwich in disguise.
The Danish waitress had the dryness of a Vietnamese gna qué — but without the smile.
She reminded you that you are still in Denmark.
Final verdict: A decent sandwich, but with the wrong pork and not enough pickle punch. I’ll go back — but I’ll...
